As @VOCALAfrica_, we have today filed contempt of court proceedings against @HonWetangula for defying court orders.

Last week, the court issued conservatory orders for both speakers to desist from engaging in active politics.

However, despite the court order, @HonWetangula still went ahead and participated in several political activities.

Law and politics must remain distinct! Today, VOCAL Africa filed a milestone petition at the Milimani Law Courts against National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula and Senate Speaker Amason Kingi.
Our petition is clear: The Speakers of our two Houses of Parliament must remain neutral and cannot engage in active politics while in office.

We are entering the courts to protect the Constitution and demand absolute accountability.

They argue that any attempt to compel them to accept alternative lawyers violates their constitutional right to a fair trial.

In a letter dated July 1, 2026, addressed to Criminal Division judge Emmanuel Baguma from Luzira Government Prison, the two accused say they remain committed to being represented by Karua, Lukwago and any other lawyers of their choosing, despite the fact that both are currently unavailable.

27 years old Charles Mangaru Mwangi was shot and killed yesterday Monday 1st June 2026 as Laikipia residents took to the streets to protest the proposed Ebola Quarantine Centre for US nationals.

Charles was shot in the chest/shoulder area and died on the spot. His body is lying at the Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital awaiting postmortem.

Another Death Inside A Police Station!

24 years old Brian Njung’e, a student at Kiambu National Polytechnic, was arrested yesterday Thursday 21st May morning in Kirigiti area of Kiambu town and booked at Kiambu Police Station.

Brian called his mother from the police station around 9am and they spoke, where Brian informed the mother of his arrest.

The family, including the mother, rushed to the police station to follow up. They got there just before noon and requested to see Brian but were asked to wait.

They were kept waiting until around 2pm when they were called in and informed that Brian had allegedly committed suicide in the cells.

Police claim Brian was alone in the cells as other cellmates had been taken to court. The family is crying foul and wants justice arguing that the police story doesn’t add up.

Fuel is the backbone of movement, trade and access to services which keeps our economy active and fluid. When its price spikes, the effect is immediate. Transport costs rise. Food prices follow. Small businesses struggle to stay afloat. Essential services become harder to access.

For ordinary Kenyans, this will be the daily reality of choosing between mobility, food and basic needs.

The ongoing strike by the motorists’ association is a warning signal of the fragility of our economic stability amid high fuel costs. The nationwide transport strike is likely to disrupt supply chains, stall economic activity and paralyse urban and rural mobility alike.

Workers are unable to reach their jobs. Goods will fail to reach markets. Emergency and essential services would face delays.

The combined effect of high fuel prices and a transport shutdown risks pushing already strained households and businesses to the brink. This is how economic pressure quickly becomes a social crisis.

I urge the Government to engage urgently and meaningfully with stakeholders in the transport and energy sectors. We need sustainable, transparent and accountable interventions that stabilise fuel prices and protect livelihoods.

Failure to act will expose millions of Kenyans to deepening economic hardship and reduced access to essential services.

The ongoing Matatu strike that has paralysed public transport this morning and affected all sectors of the economy is testament of the delicate nature of fuel prices and changes thereto.

The government must take all measures necessary to alleviate the deleterious impact of the sharp increase in fuel prices, including the necessary action to have the prices come down.

The Law Society of Kenya through its Public Interest Litigation Committee and the Lawyer-Police Committee is monitoring the situation as it unravels following the matatu strike, and will offer the necessary legal support in case of any eventualities today and the days to follow.

We have today filed a petition as @VOCALAfrica_ to challenge the recent recruitment by KPA. We have argued that the process flouted laid down procedures.

We are asking the court to declare the entire exercise null and void and to order that a fresh recruitment exercise be undertaken.
