🎉We’ve reached a big milestone, Peel!🎉
50% of residents aged 18+ are now fully vaccinated🙌
This is a huge accomplishment to reach near the end of our #2DoseChallenge.
Thanks to YOU for helping us get here and to all our partners who've made it possible!🤗
Star health reporter @Megan_Ogilvie details some of her emotional journey covering COVID-19 for more than a year — including the eight-hour visit to the Brampton Civic Hospital.
Behind-the-scenes, Star photographer @SteveRussell recounts what it was like to see the inside of one of Ontario's hardest-hit hospitals. From hallway care to the ICU:
"It's not just #COVID19 that is killing people,
it's underprivilege,
it's lack of access,
it's years of living with health conditions that haven't been properly managed because of the colour of your skin, or your ethnicity, or your social group"- @DrMikeRyan#HealthForAll
Osler’s COVID test positivity:
Assessment centres 13%
Brampton Civic ER 17%
Etobicoke Gen ER 26%
Both hospitals in Code Gridlock
None of this is new information, but gov’t plan is to ease restrictions.
Given the powerful evidence of spread of #COVID19 in the Region of Peel, including 280 new cases today, the decision to proceed with reopening is reckless and must be reversed immediately given the risks it poses to area hospitals, particularly @OslerHealth#onpoli
October is #IslamicHeritageMonth! Ontario is proud to have the largest #Muslim community in Canada. This month is to recognize and celebrate the significant achievements of the Muslim community in Ontario.
Today, we acted on the advice of our Medical Officer of Health by announcing we will implement mandatory masks in indoor spaces in Peel. This is something #Brampton residents have been asking for & will allow us to reopen sooner. A bylaw will be considered on July 2nd. #COVID19
This health crisis can push us to do what we've always needed. Stop accepting health system silos & fragmentation. Build seamless, patient-centred health systems. The right data tools will help us get there. #OnePersonOneHealthRecord#singledigitalidentity https://t.co/XBh9OugtsR
This past year we continued to push boundaries.
We forged partnerships, expanded our footprint and took on COVID-19 with courage and compassion.

To our nurses: thank you ❤️
This #NationalNursingWeek is different than many in the past. This week we recognize nurses who are Going Beyond in more ways than we can count to put their patients first and provide compassionate care in the face of a pandemic. #TogetherWeCanDoIt
Thank you @REMAXca for the prompt response. Hate and islamophobia have no place in our community discourse. We love our diversity and mosaic of faiths in #Brampton. @nccm@cancivlib@mcpeel4u#brampoli

Here’s what a drive-thru COVID-19 test centre looks like. There are roughly a dozen similar drive-thru sites across Ontario, and provincial officials say more than 5,500 swabs have been taken in total between March 18 and April 14. Read more: https://t.co/vuDfZCek39
It’s official! Today @PrabSarkaria announced Brampton/Etobicoke & Area OHT will be one of the first in the province. This marks a significant step forward in creating a better system of care for local residents. Congrats to the many partners who helped achieve this milestone!
