My @MAAIF_Uganda team and I, had a very good and productive meeting this morning with the Top leadership and management team of the @min_waterUg led by my senior colleague Hon @otafiire_k .
We discussed and reviewed the current status of the water for production and irrigation development interventions in the country.
We jointly noted the low uptake
levels of irrigated farming in the country ( <2%) and the impact it has on the country's production and productivity.
We have further agreed to establish an inter-ministerial working committee on water for production and irrigation planing to be meeting a very month.
I thank my senior colleague Hon @otafiire_k for hosting us at the ministry of water and for the leadership.
My best and most productive day is always the one with farmers in the field.
I was pleased today to visit Rubanga Coffee Cooperative (@CoRubanga@RubangaCoffee ) in Mitooma district. Their humble journey of adding value to Coffee started in 1986 with Mzee Silver Biryaho as the vision bearer and still now the Chairman of the Cooperative. His Son & my friend @jamesmuhangi , a solid ๐ business mind is the business captain/CEO.
The Cooperative now turns over $10m annually. They also employ a sizeable number of young graduates directly & support a farmers supplier network with extension services.
@MAAIF_Uganda under the various interventions, will continue to identify and profile such actors in the different value chains for partnership and support.
I thank the People of Ruhinda and Mitooma for being good coffee and banana farmers. As I drove through the community, the agronomy on the farms is well done .
Thank you my senior colleagues @otafiire_k@Thomas_Tayebwa for guiding your people well.
Our people are truly transforming, a few remaining bottlenecks (like reliable rural power, high cost of money affecting off-takers etc) notwithstanding.
With utmost humility, I thank H.E @KagutaMuseveni for re-appointing me to cabinet. Thank you Mzee for trusting me and giving me an opportunity to serve my country. I pledge (as always); Loyalty & total commitment to duty.
To my Chairman Afande @mkainerugaba, thank you your support & for believing in me.
God bless my leader .God bless Uganda!
A great week, well spent with constituents, filled with lots of physical activity; farming & nature walks..
Here we climbed our mini-Rwenzori ( Kabuga Hill), which is 1657m above sea level. I thank my constituency ground team for the morale & good moments together.
Kyankwanzi has come from far. Cows used to swim across R. Mayanja. People would cross on boats. Now we have a very beautiful bridge. We used to buy fresh fish by the river. The children enjoyed this as kids.
Glad this afternoon to have kicked off distribution of FMD vaccines..
We hope to give out a total of 9m doses to all affected districts by mid June.
I appeal to all district leaders ( political & technical) to cooperate & monitor this exercise of vaccine administration
