The struggles faced by Fijians on dialysis are heart-wrenching. Six amazing patients need our help to continue their treatment. Please consider donating or sharing their story. #EveryLifeMatters

@WHO has recognized that Chronic Kidney Disease is now a global agenda that needs greater attention, but for unreached Fijians and Pacific Islanders, I can't help but echoing the words of Dr Tedros @DrTedros "Innovations are only as powerful as the people they reach"
At the #ANZSNCongress 2025, as I listened in awe of the advances in kidney care around the world, my heart broke for Fijians. It is likely that a 5th of our population, living in rural and remote locations/smaller islands, never get the opportunity to be tested for kidney disease
While countries are moving to accuracy in diagnosis by way of kidney biopsies & newer tests, Fijians, if lucky, get urine protein and blood pressure checked - only to be followed by the "now what?" dilemma. There are no SGLT2i/MRA/GLP-1 RAs out here, none affordable anyway
@ASDINNews A shout out to Dr Catherine Wilkinson of Cairns, Australia, for being a leading Interventional Nephrologist, and for her contribution to the region #WomenInMedicineMonth

The Interventional Nephrology workshop at the #ANZSNCongress 2025 has been a wonderful opportunity to learn (and teach) interventional procedures. Humbling to share with these fellow delegates some tips and tricks on successful hemodialysis catheter placements 🇫🇯🇦🇺🇳🇿
We’re from different parts of the world 🇫🇯 🇬🇧, with very different health systems, but the passion is the same - better patients outcomes. Huge fan of Prof Liz Lightstone @kidneydoc101 and her incredible work in advancing treatment of #LupusNephritis
I will be sharing at the @ANZSN INW the humble journey of how, with the help of friends, Fiji 🇫🇯 has gone from depending on non tunneled catheters for maintenance hemodialysis, to now being able to do all major interventional procedures, including fistuloplasty. See you in Perth!
Excellent webinar on management of thrombosed AV Fistulas, and the usefulness of @bostonsci 's AngioJet Thrombectomy System. Rescuing an arteriovenous fistula is often the same as rescuing the patient depending on it for effective Hemodialysis. #InterventionalNephrology
7 AVF surgeries in Fiji🇫🇯 in 1 day! A few years ago this felt like a mission to mars. We are creating a network of friends who are keen to support Fijians & Pacific people on dialysis treatment. Like #VascularSurgeon, Dr Sherab Bhutia🇦🇺, who loves lending us a hand (both hands)
I’ve finished my #InterventionalNephrology Fellowship at Cairns Hospital, Queensland, Australia. Who wants to be the next “Made in Australia” Fellow and work with and learn from an incredible mentor (Dr Murty Mantha) and team?
@Kidneyisland@ASDINNews As we build friendships across oceans and borders, we are empowered to bring health care to those who would otherwise never get the chance. I look forward to @ASDINNews conference next year to share our successes and challenges. Cheers! 🙂
My Australian mentors, Dr Mantha & Dr Wilkinson, and team 🇦🇺, came to Fiji 🇫🇯 to walk #TeamFiji through the first cases of Arteriovenous Fistuloplasty/Central Vein Angioplasty this week. What a heart-warming way to conclude my Interventional Nephrology Fellowship. #NephrologyFiji
This is an incredibly powerful photo. Volunteer Imaging nurse Danielle from Cairns Australia teaching Fijian Nurse Rahul how to inflate an angioplasty balloon. We did CWM Hospital’s first AV Fistula related central vein stenosis angioplasty last night. #Vuvale#NephrologyFiji
29 April 2025: The beginning of Interventional Nephrology services in Fiji. The support of so many amazing individuals and organizations, including over a decade of mentorship from @ISNkidneycare, has made this possible. #ThisIsISN#TeamFiji#NephrologyFiji#KidneyHealthForAll
Join us and our absolutely delightful chief guest, Hon @SashiKiranMP on 2 May 2025, as we raise funds to support a team of volunteer specialists from Australia who will be performing life-sustaining kidney dialysis related procedures not accessible in Fiji before. See you there?
I showed these enthusiastic @jcu medical students a couple of #InterventionalNephrology procedures today. One day they will do grander things than we can right now, and help save many lives, in Australia and the region! #JCU
How incredible is this? Renowned Australian Vascular Surgeon, Dr Sherab Bhutia, helping create AV Fistulas for #hemodialysis patients in Fiji today. Amazing things happen when we build friendships across nations! #TeamFiji#VuvalePartnership 🇫🇯🇦🇺
