This shallow submarine VEI 4 eruption made a water-rich plume, new tuff ring islands, and a pumice raft.
Finally, we argue that the decoupling of pumice clasts from the aerial plume points to the important role of external water on eruption style and the fate of erupted material.
Together, we used ultra-high resolution imagery to determine how pumice clasts were delivered to the raft (tephra jets and low-level plume fallout). Ashok Gupta used Himwari-8 data to show that the plume was ice-rich.
