This afternoon, we celebrated 90 years of the East African Regional Centre of Excellence in Virology.
It started as a yellow fever research Centre in 1935, supported by the Rockfefeller Foundation and now it is an EAC Regional Centre of Excellency for Virology.
This centre has been central in the fight against Pandemics and response to health threats in the East African Community @UVRIug@Nrmonline, @BusogaTourism
Day Two of the #UVRIAt90 celebrations marked another important milestone for Uganda’s health sector.
Minister of Health Dr. @CHRISBARYOMUNS1 today presided over the opening of the new Regional Polio Laboratory at the Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI), joined by Permanent Secretary Dr. @DianaAtwine and UVRI Director Prof. Pontiano Kaleebu.
The new facility strengthens Uganda’s and the region’s capacity for polio surveillance, laboratory diagnostics, and timely outbreak detection, reinforcing our commitment to disease prevention and safeguarding public health.
