Last October, cell biology lost one of its brightest stars, Bill Weis. Bill was a masterful biochemist and structural biologist who made landmark contributions to a remarkable number of fields. An obituary from Mark Peifer @peiferlabunc and Alexander Dunn: https://t.co/yN3duTw2FP
Bill was a brilliant scientist, an exceptional colleague, and a wonderful mentor. It was a privilege to know him and work with him. A terrible loss. RIP.
With sorrow, we (@Stanford_MCP@SSBiophysics) share news that our friend & colleague, Bill Weis, passed away Oct 13,2023. Among many other reasons, he is missed for his discoveries, mentoring, and for the gift of his incisive intellect, wry wit, & kindness. RIP.

The Wohlever Lab is moving to the Department of Cell Biology at the University of Pittsburgh! Official start date is August 1st. Thanks to collaborators, colleagues, and current/former lab members for helping launch the lab at UToledo.
Thanks to @KwiatkowskiLab - aka the "Prince of Pittsburgh" - for the invite to the University of Pittsburgh! It was wonderful to spend time with so many amazing adhesion and organelle biologists. I especially enjoyed the campus tour and the famous "Cathedral of Learning".
1. #Smallpaper we hope punches above its weight… a “Where’s Waldo” saga that better rationalizes growing #GWA studies linking alpha-T-catenin/CTNNA3 to diseases ranging from #asthma to #autism and #multiplesclerosis. 🧵below https://t.co/UacdjYRXrA
We're sad to report the passing of our dear colleague and friend, Marcel Bruchez. He was a brilliant scientist, an entrepreneur and innovator, and a beloved teacher and mentor. He will be deeply missed. https://t.co/kqDYlQrJD7
Name a city that exceeded expectations upon your first visit. I’ll start with Pittsburgh. I knew PNC Park would be awesome. I did not realize Pittsburgh the city is also fucking awesome.
New paper!

This surprising finding suggests one way by which the cell generates stable linkages between the membrane and cytoskeleton while still allowing rapid cytoskeletal remodeling. Congrats @ElginKorkmazhan!

@SeptinLab What about “Walk This Way” from Aerosmith (the original from 1975)? Also reached top 10 in ‘77. The rap remake with Run-D.M.C. a decade later is pretty true to the original.
having a name that takes longer to pronounce is associated with a significantly lower likelihood of being placed into an academic job or obtaining a tenure track position & an initial placement at an institution with lower research productivity; econ
