Special thanks to my coauthors for this PhD chapter: @Albert_Ruhi, @willydemendoza, David Herbst, and Gabriella Doerschlag, along with everyone else that has helped!
Does climate change-altered phenology affect ecosystem processes? We found that extended low flows mimicking future flow regimes change the phenology of aquatic invertebrates and the ecosystem processes they control at fine temporal scales. https://t.co/rlILFinNcD
Advanced emergence of Chironomidae taxa coincided with the nesting period of Brewer's Blackbirds, providing higher food availability during this critical period. Brewer's Blackbirds were even able to wade in early low flow channels and feed on larval aquatic invertebrates!
A new @PNASNews study led by @ESPM_Berkeley professor @Albert_Ruhi and graduate student @KyleWLeathers suggests that drought may reshape California's mountain waterways—and the ecosystems that depend on them—by the end of the century.

High-elevation streams in the Sierra Nevada mountain range may be more vulnerable to droughts and heatwaves than previously thought, according to new research by @KyleWLeathers, @Albert_Ruhi, and @UofCalifornia researchers @safeeqkhan and David Herbst. https://t.co/TlGG8Uk5Xy
Thanks to @SeqParksCon for funding this work and @mark_scheuerell, Max Williams, Adan Gonzalez, Juliana Ruef, Aidan Grundy-Reiner, and Breanna Ruvalcaba for their help!
Will climate change make things too hot for stream invertebrates in the Sierra Nevada? Check out my first PhD paper with @Albert_Ruhi @safeeqkhan and David Herbst to see what we found! @aslo_org https://t.co/N0PDm5ypOc

Hey #JASM22! I'm presenting at 4:15 River Overlook E today on how climate change could lead to longer periods of low flow and changes in stream energy pathways in the Sierra Nevada.
A little birdie told me some species prefer low flows... Would love to chat!
[Please RT!] We are looking for a research tech working on an ongoing project that seeks environmental drivers of food chain length in rivers. The position is open until filled - https://t.co/ttvhKPn7pR
