My new paper titled “the brain and learning: new attempts to integrate cognitive science into Australian education” for @OfficialSARMAC. I’d be interested to hear perspectives - I suspect they could go in both directions!

@SallyLars_27 Great paper by Van Bergen. Better researched c/w the CC Brain & Learning reference list. The TEEP seemed fond of certain old pubs by a certain few men. So much better, contemporary research out there! Fortunately ITE providers aren't constrained to the refs cited in the report.
Fourth in the world in creative thinking: How good?
My positive but tempered response to Australia "coming fourth" in Creative Thinking, drawing on my research with @NathanielRSwain and @MurphyRuralEd

When this came out today, I was running a school workshop on explicitly teaching critical and creative thinking skills in existing units. Teachers are so up for this!

Congratulations to our first graduates from @latrobe#MasterofEducation “Language and Literacy” specialisation. You are wonderful ambassadors. Look forward to your ongoing achievements ensuring that all children become proficient readers 🎓
@audet_shawna @tiffany_peltier It's worth reading the whole thread, where the points (misconceptions and why they are problematic) are unpacked nicely.
There’s a proliferation of SoR/SoL conferences. My advice if you’re running them is to ensure they’re actually promoting best practice. I’m seeing EduCeleb blindness, some practices that aren’t consistent with the evidence & even stolen content. What are your checks and balances?
There is SO much following of people rather than evidence in the SoR/SoL movements now. Terrible ideas, misinformation & superficial levels of knowledge abound. Be critical consumers. Stop following blindly. Ask hard questions. Don’t assume what is offered is sound/best practice.
@HA_Fernandez@PatsKarvelas Person identifying as a woman. It's difficult to grasp the concept of you don't identify as one of the binary genders. I suspect you do, though.
AERO's new model explains how to align student learning processes with teaching practices in 4 crucial areas. From managing cognitive load to creating a learning-focused environment, it's all about optimising the learning experience. https://t.co/YoyDlZRCZe #HowStudentsLearn
Finding out and thinking carefully are central to Australia's Mparntwe Education Declaration. Many Ts work hard to develop the required skills in Ss. It's problematic that the opposite of this approach has been promoted as a legitimate option.

@KylieMurphyEd found some quotes from the same person that I quoted from the east Berlin wall yesterday (thank you Kylie, I marinated on them all day today) This one, speaks to me quite loudly “We are what we do, especially what we do to change what we are.” Eduardo Galeano
@mathillustrated@NathanielRSwain I think (hope) advocates of "I show, you practice" instruction don't mean to suggest it's the ONLY thing teachers should EVER do. The explicit instruction discourse does seem absolutist at times though, which is a shame.
@NathanielRSwain@mathillustrated Ralph, the first part of your tweet was valid but you then mocked things that I think you know are elements of effective teaching. You're not the first to mock in this tiresome debate, of course, which I suspect explains your emotive language. I understand the frustration.
I was a descendant of convicts. On both sides. Within 10 years one was a blacksmith and other married to a cop. In that time tens of thousands of indigenous Australians were slaughtered. How can anybody find the two experiences analogous?
