@enkidurga It works because the first 2 episodes did a good job building up the... lets call it "realistic bureaucratic incompetence" of the military proper.
So the reveal that they ACTUALLY got their s%$t together and built a proper Super Robot came off as a genuine surprise.
@WazpRanger@strongest_human Most final mecha either try to cram the entire mass into a vaguely humanoid shape, or chicken out and have it be a platform the other mecha stand on.
I think the reason Kyuukyoku Daizyujin works is because it's the only mecha to find a happy medium between the two extremes
@Arbether@Lenoxus@perdricof At some level they genuinely can't grasp the fact that they and the younger generation exist in the same space at the same time.
They CONSTANTLY complain about the world is going downhill. Yet when we complain about THE EXACT SAME THING it's seen as 'entitlement'
@Caboose_ED@baticeering I literally JUST NOW realized that the Bestials could represent the concept of 'masking'
~Flawed attempt by the Don Clan to help get along with humans
~imitates 'normal human' behavior and mannerisms
~locks away and supresses the 'true' self
@Caboose_ED@baticeering Fellow early diagnosis her, and not only do I think autistic Taro is canon, I kind of think it might be the 'entire point'.
I may be going out on a limb, but to me A LOT of the show seems to be an allegory for neurodivergence and mental health in general.
@vehlt@GoodPoliticGuy The problem with Bill is he prioritizes his 'anti-wokeness' over his otherwise liberal views.
I remember during the infrastructure bill he was singing the praises of Manchin and Sinema solely b.c. they were on the opposite side of AOC and the squad.
@theserfstv The reason why their actions seem contradict their words was because we've fundamentally misunderstood what they're actually saying.
It's not 'values' in an ethical sense, its 'value' in the economic sense. They expect family and children to ~provide~ value to them.
@theserfstv To them a 'family' is nothing but a factory to produce copies of themselves. A woman with a will of her own is a faulty 'machine' A child who doesn't turn out exactly like you is a faulty 'product'
Once you understand that mindset, you understand EVERYTHING about these people.
@SailorHannibal I always assumed that for Sonoi and Tarou, standing next to each other in silence WAS their idea of 'hanging out'.
It always gave off this "Me and my fellow neurodivergents just vibin'" energy.
@hawkilles I've seen Zero-One made by white people.
It was called Detroit: Beyond Human, and it is so ~genuinely~ offensively terrible that it makes Zero-One look like freaking Issac Asimov by comparison.
@AdamSerwer To be fair, at least half of that stuff is what they've been doing to their OWN voters for decades, and it hasn't scared them off yet.
They've gotten so used to people BELIEVING their BS that they can't wrap their head around the idea of someone who doesn't.
@Gaisoulg Some heroes would give this kind of speech BEFORE the beat down, but not my man Ace. He just silently went LaserBoost, beat everyone into the ground, and only then explained to them why they had it coming.
@SunshineMoonRX TBH Racles and Ieyasu seem like very different circumstances. For Ieyasu he came into a 100+ year period of constant civil war and ended it by, well, winning all the wars.
Racles looked at 4 sovereign nations with peaceful diplomatic relations and thought "Imma start some s$*t"
@PatStaresAt Even beyond the media part, the very nature of large scale, international, and online business make boycotts almost impossible.
Part of the logic of IRL boycotts is that normal people don't want to be seen crossing a picket line. But that doesn't apply in a virtual store.
@velodus It's ill-defined nature isn't a bug, it's a feature. It's an umbrella term that can mean anything from 'kids these days...' to 'Jews control the media'. It's Dark Intersectionality, trying to frame unity and empathy with each other as proof that we're conspiring against them.
@velodus I think the scariest thing about the rebranding of 'woke' is that it's not ~just~ a substitute for one particular slur, it's a substitute for ~all of them~
Blacks, LGBT, Blue Haired Feminists? It doesn't matter who you hate, the word is one size fits all.
@GenePark Considering how the opening narration shows that Leon is CLEARLY still traumatized by the events of RE2, I almost feel like they're implying Leon's "action hero" one liners are a defense mechanism he developed to disassociate from the horrors around him.
@GenePark The fact that they zoom out and frame the shot so the cop burning corpse is ~directly~ in the foreground as he delivers the line is *chef's kiss* tonal dissonance/10
