The first paragraph of Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson’s concurrence is a devastating takedown of Justice Thomas’s heinous opinion:
“The Reconstruction Amendments were an anticaste, antisubordination reset for the Nation, not a mere spot treatment for the dark stain of slavery.”
When something breaks, most of us replace it. At this Brooklyn repair cafe, volunteers are helping neighbors fix everything from lamps and jeans to vintage fans and old smartwatches for free. The events are part of a growing global movement to reduce waste, save money and bring back repair skills that many people say have been lost.
The Supreme Court justices ruled on Monday that constitutional privacy protections apply to cellphone location data.
At issue was the police use of what's known as "geofence warrants" to locate all devices near the scene of a crime in 2019.
The court ruled that, even when location information is shared with companies like Google and Apple, people don't forfeit their expectations of privacy.
The case was widely viewed as a test for how privacy would be protected in this digital age.

Let’s continue making Michigan a place where everyone can be themselves every day of the year.
The San Francisco Archdiocese has agreed to pay $395 million to sexual abuse survivors, according to the victims' lawyers.
It settles the claims of more than 500 survivors — the vast majority from decades ago — who said they were sexually abused by members of the clergy.
In a statement, San Francisco's Archbishop said, "While no financial settlement can erase the painful legacy of past actions, let us pray that God's grace may help to heal all those affected."
The San Francisco Archdiocese and several dozen other dioceses nationwide have declared bankruptcy as a direct result of child sexual abuse lawsuits.
Republican senators who vote to confirm Blanche are deluding themselves if they believe he will do anything but accelerate the weaponization of the justice system.

Usually I resist following SCOTUS too closely, but when immediate attention is called for, there's no better source than @SCOTUSblog 's live blog. I'm tuned in today.

Praying to the Lord for the eternal rest of the deceased, I renew my spiritual solidarity with their families, the injured, and all who have been shaken by this tragedy. I also wish to express my gratitude and encouragement to those generously working on search and rescue efforts and providing assistance.
A massive crowd gathered at the Stonewall National Monument on Friday during New York City's pride celebrations and belted out the tune "Somewhere Over the Rainbow." The monument commemorates the birthplace of the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement, sparked by police raids at the Stonewall Inn in 1969.
College-educated black Americans—especially women—struggle to find jobs after the Trump admin reduced fed workforce &imposed tariffs. Some worry that companies are scared to hire them when the govt is encouraging White men to file discrimination complaints.https://t.co/NxlpgT7CKv
On the 56th anniversary of Stonewall, we celebrate the legacy and advocacy of leaders like Marsha P. Johnson, Sylvia Rivera, and the countless others who took a stand against discrimination and injustice.
Their bravery inspires us to continue the fight for equality.
Buttigieg said this happened shortly after his family shared Father's Day photos on social media. He noted it occurred during Pride month. He was careful not to assign it to a specific source. He was not careful about naming what it was: a deliberate use of child protection systems as a political weapon, timed to cause maximum harm to a family, designed to drag four-year-old children into a process they could not understand as a way of getting to their father.
CPS workers and forensic interviewers doing their jobs are the mechanism that was abused here. They did their jobs correctly. The abuse was upstream of them - someone filed a false report, knowing exactly what procedure would follow, knowing exactly what it would do to a family, knowing exactly what it would do to two small children. That person committed a crime. Buttigieg is right that it cannot be allowed to normalize. It is not part of the cost of public service. It is an attack on children.
