❄ 💔🌊Curious about wintertime leads in the Arctic sea ice? 🤔Sea ice dynamics can tell you much more!
We have used divergence derived from SAR satellite images to study the presence and formation history of leads.

NEW CALL FOR PROJECTS: Additional Essential Climate Variables (https://t.co/QVaEiNnh9l)
The scope of this new procurement involves developing new satellite-derived Climate Data Records that will add to the existing Essential Climate Variable portfolio of ESA’s Climate Change Initiative https://t.co/IoJWPjBqhh or algorithm improvement of existing products.
Up to three projects will be awarded.
Deadline 14 Oct 13:00 CET
We got #news! Daniel Farinotti is stepping up as the new Cryosphere division deputy president. Read @LarissavdLaan's interview with him on his vision with this position and the importance of supporting #ECS@EuroGeosciences 👏

Goodbye to everyone that I met and that made my #EGU2024 so enjoyable. It was so nice bumping into former colleagues, study mates, and friends! Thanks #EGU2024 for reuniting us!
1/3 We are absolutely thrilled to have Dr. Volker Rachold join us 🗓️ next Tuesday!
He is the Head of the @GERarcticofficeat at @AWI_Media, Helmholtz Center for Polar and Marine Research (AWI), which serves as an information and cooperation platform between German stakeholders
Ending #EGU2024 with a big Crash (of ice 😃)!
Starting the last session of the day with a great summary of what we know about sea ice deformation during @MOSAiCArctic by @ItkinPolona.
Join me for my CryoSat-2 talk on how we can read in thickness distributions like in a 📔book on the thermodynamic and dynamic history of the ice! 🧊🛰️
⏲️12:05 in Room 1.61 #ESAatEGU#EGU2024
Preview of the talk in the figure: Mean thickness is not telling us the full story!
We're representing #ESAatEGU this week with a whopping 40+ #CryoSat posters & talks
Loads going on RN, from rapid changes in sea ice to hydrology of ice sheets, ice shelves and glaciers 🌊🧊
Check it all out - and say hi to @ESA_EO if you're there ;)

🧊🛰️#EGU2024 is going to end *ice* 🧊cool🧊! Looking forward to seeing you in "Changes in the Arctic Ocean, sea ice and subarctic seas systems" with also a lot of sea ice 🛰️remote sensing talks! @ClnHz
Almost over - but not quite yet! Tomorrow is the last #EGU24 day and it starts with a bang! @queenofpeat and @tedschuur will talk about #methane in the #arctic at US3. After the last amazing sessions, maybe enjoy a movie at the #GeoCinema before heading home!🫶
Grateful also for this #EGU2024 experience: Engaging with people outside my sea ice bubble. Great pico session on the Science- Policy interface happening now!
Cool talk by Alek Petty how we can improve the way we compare sea ice thickness in climate models and observational altimeter data: Freeboard! Can be very helpful to bridge the substantial gap between the both! #EGU24
So much progress in detecting leads in sea ice from satellites
Sentinel-1, Sentinel3 and Gaofen-3. #EGU2024
Exciting posters st EGU from
1 Shiyi Chen: Arctic Wintertime Sea ice Lead Detection from Sentinel-1 SAR images
2 Haiyan Li: Fine reesolution classification of new ice, young ice, and first year ice based on feature selection from Gaofen-3 quad-polarization SAR
3 Weibin Chen: OLCI optical imagery and SAR radar altimetetry from Sentinel-3 for enhanced sea ice surface classification.
If you pass by our booth at #EGU24 (Hall X2, stand X202, between @EuroGeosciences and @googleearth Engine ones) don't forget to take a pic at the Photo Booth and post it using the #ESAatEGU hashtag.
Looking forward to see how much fun you are having!
