Married to the love of my life, mom of 2 boys, momrade to many, love hiking & roller skating. Excellent baker, above-average hugger. Anti-racist. She/her.
The King Center remembers #EmmettTill. 70 years ago today, the apple of his mom, Mamie Till’s, eye was brutally dehumanized and lynched by a rabidly racist mob of white men who had been lied to by a white woman. Even if she had been telling the truth about Emmett whistling at her, the lynching of Emmett Till would have still been vile and reprehensible. A whistle inciting a murder is depravity.
However, this was like many incidents today, when people know that a lie, embellishment of a misunderstanding, or reporting the presence of a Black person will facilitate violence against that person.
Anti-black racism still exists. And is persisting in policies, dismissing of critical history lessons, policing, systemic barriers, and strategic, unjust efforts to weaponize the word “woke” at the expense of Black people in America.
Just as the lynching of Emmett Till and his mother showing his body at his funeral were catalysts for the movement then, may his memory galvanize us now.

“fuck it, i’ll do it!” —black women
Black women are routinely erased from public memory and historical narratives of resistance.
Black women powered the civil rights movement, but rarely became its stars. InternationalWomensDay
A THREAD!
Sixty years ago, on this day in 1965, Brother Malcolm (el-Hajj Malik el-Shabazz) was assassinated.
Gunned down in front of his wife and daughters.
What a tragic day for humanity.
I’m praying today for his daughters, who I love dearly.
#MalcolmX
they stopped an app before a genocide. they stopped an app before homelessness. they stopped an app before food insecurity. they stopped an app before raising minimum wage. they stopped an app before school shootings. they stopped an app before giving healthcare. an app.
@SLessard My favorite part is how the same folks who think climate change isn’t a thing because humans can’t impact the weather also believe democrats are creating weather disasters to prevent Trump supporters from voting 🙃
No DNA evidence. Jury members, even the prosecutor circled back saying the verdict was a mistake. Nobody involved wanted this man to die. We have a soulless justice system in this country. This is why the term “black lives matter,” as simple as it sounds, is so audacious.
