@jberthume I just re-read "The Death of Expertise" by @RadioFreeTom. His critique of journalism was more than fair, and he also said academics could do more to connect with the public. But what really got me was how well Nichols' predicted public behavior in a 2017 1/2
@May1968Paris@Ami_Marisol@TheJoeySwoll I don't like to think I'm dumb, but I never once thought about a bun or maybe a head covering. I've done this so many times.
@TheJoeySwoll I had no idea. Kinda wish the gyms I'd joined had included this in membership guidelines - or posted a notice on dressing room mirrors. I had no idea this was so dangerous and I've definitely done squats with the bar on my ponytail.
@65pjc@TheJoeySwoll Kind of wish this had been part of a membership guidelines/helpful information packet from the gyms I've joined. I didn't know it was so dangerous to squat while wearing a ponytail.
@roddreher It's definitely not weird for a deeply devoted Christian to think the woman in this clip - who is putting the fear & trembling over men wearing nail polish in proper proportion - is going to be "in your face, forever."
Don't you supposedly wear Godly armor or something?
LOL! Reminds me of my teen years. I'd be walking my dog and - SURPRISE! - the family cat would jump out of the bushes at us.
Percy never "attacked" from the same yard twice, either.
A man installed a GPS tracker on his cat to track its route while he was walking his dog.
To his surprise, the cat stealthily followed him and the dog for the entire walk.
@chickstuz2@OldHollowTree My elderly dad grew up on a tobacco farm in rural Kentucky. His pathway out of poverty was higher ed, he said. Earned a chem engineering degree. Did very well. Moved back to rural Kentucky to "hobby farm." He loves it, but knows he can sell it and not lose his shirt.
If I don't drink at least 32 ounces of water an hour before a blood draw, the phlebotomist sticks the top of my hand. Solidarity to all the hard-to-stick folks!
@RadioFreeTom@Viror12 I. Love. It. Love both, and I'm not even sorry! But I don't love Faith Hill's "Piece of My Heart." That one belongs to Janis IMO.
@RadioFreeTom Tangent: I'm an old gay from Texas & a TC fan. I can confirm that the country music fans around me at the time clocked her as gay and were decidedly uncharitable about it. I know country music fans don't speak for the industry, but there is a connection.
@sheilagregoire@theSludgeco My favorite online thing is when a group of people who don't know each other realize they share a common experience, and some chud blunders in with "I'll take things that never happened for $500."
@theSludgeco@sheilagregoire I went to a Baptist college as a non-Baptist. PLENTY of my female classmates talked about the no-seatbelt-shoulder-strap-lest-the-guys-lust rule.
@bigkiitten Men... live in a continuous state of violence? Am I watching too many videos by dudes who mod their computer keyboards to make them louder? Is that violence? 😅
@wolfnchiclothng Good question! I don't know how often those supplies are ordered, and I don't know if logos are created in house or by a third party. I'll ask. I would guess that the new mascots, supplies and clothing will be "live" the first day of school at the new location.
B4 the holidays, I wrote a story about Denton ISD saving $250K by changing a middle school's colors and mascot so that the campus wouldn't have to rip out perfectly good bleachers and change mascot imagery. Naturally, Facebook dude calls it "clandestine cancel culture."
