#EMD2026 ACs workshop on the SSCF, MSP and co-management. Stakeholders’ engagement, dialogue, participatory process resulted to be essential elements.
Thanks to @CostasKadis for his participation and acknowledging the valuable contribution of the ACs
This week, we hosted the General Assembly of the @LDAC_eu in The Hague. Part of the programme included a visit to a freezer trawler and, of course, Dutch herring.
Constructive dialogue within Advisory Councils remains essential to sustainable fisheries and global food security.

The Commission has adopted a temporary State aid framework to help Member States support sectors affected by the Middle East crisis, including fishery and intra-EU short sea shipping.
What does it allow? 👇
We present today our evaluation of the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) Regulation, covering the period from 2014 to 2024. This decade of the CFP has put Europe on a more sustainable path, protecting better the marine resources our fishers rely on. Our governance is stronger, and our international leadership on ocean protection is clear. However, climate change, limited marine space, increased operational costs and rapid geopolitical changes keep testing our resilience. Fish stock rebuilding is lagging, impacting fishers and coastal communities. We will now take informed decisions on the future of our Common Fisheries Policy and put forward the EU strategy on External Action in Fisheries.

Today, we have adopted a temporary State aid framework to support EU Member States in the context of the Middle East crisis. The Middle East crisis Temporary State aid Framework (METSAF) is a targeted and temporary framework to address the effects of the crisis on some of the most exposed sectors of the economy such as Fisheries. We implement easily applicable solutions and we are determined to cushion the effects of the crisis.

🚢 The EU fishing fleet is evolving, with changes in capacity, costs, environmental conditions and age of the workforce.
A new study published today looks at these trends and the opportunities to support a resilient and sustainable sector.

Constructive engagement with the EU IUU Fishing Coalition, a key partner in addressing illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
We share a strong commitment to enhancing transparency in vessel ownership and strengthening the implementation of flag State responsibilities.
We value the Coalition’s technical expertise as we advance efforts toward fair, lawful, and sustainable global fisheries.
Today’s High-Level Dialogue with 🇮🇸 Minister Hanna Katrín Friðriksson marked a milestone in EU–Iceland cooperation under our MoU.
Our shared priorities are clear 👉strong collaboration on Arctic matters, marine biodiversity, the blue economy, and research and scientific work, particularly in ocean observation.
I look forward to continuing this partnership.
Today, we activated emergency funding to shield fisheries and aquaculture from the Middle East crisis.
By triggering the crisis mechanism of the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF), EU Member States can now provide targeted financial compensation to fishers, aquaculture producers, processors, and retailers whose livelihoods have been disrupted by the consequences of the conflict.
We stand with fishers facing uncertainty at sea, aquaculture producers managing thin margins, and fishmongers keeping coastal communities alive. The people who bring seafood to our tables deserve our full support.
