I love mini whiteboards and probably use them too much, truth be told. This is why I appreciated the part of this discussion that took on when not to use them. Click the link below to listen.

@greeborunner I have a whole different take on reading since @Doug_Lemov sent me The Science of Reading to summarise...
And I teach physics.
Now I realise what I should have been doing (as should parents).

I observed a lesson in a school last week where they were revising Macbeth and it reminded me of this lecture I once gave to students aiming for a grade 7-9 in English Lit @FgcsInfo on Macbeth and Kingship

I am still surprised to find teachers who haven’t heard of this series. It is an absolute MUST watch full of great practice with really practical strategies for implementation.
The #2 rule of teaching: all children benefit from being taught in ways that disproportionately benefit those with special needs

When I trained to teach, the focus was on teaching the different purposes of writing. Writing to persuade, to explain, to describe.
By contrast, The Writing Revolution teach writing as a means of advancing thinking.
I think it's the latter approach that is more important in a world with AI.

These are my top tops for making texts accessible.
*1.5- double lined spaced
*line numbers
*Gloss the vocab immediately above the target word
*Add image if easier than words (e.g pikes!)
No 3 also means you can easily read both target & explainer word when reading to class.
