"...The bank is something else than men. It happens that every man in a bank hates what the bank does, and yet the bank does it. The bank is something more than men, I tell you. It’s the monster. Men made it, but they can’t control it.”
― John Steinbeck, The Grapes of Wrath
@RedneckTauri Someone should eloquently point out that our cultural values of freedom, independence, morality, compassion, intelligence, and American grit are a huge reason people love the show. Without it, its not Stargate.
@RedneckTauri Ive bought the boxed set twice and watched the entire series at least 3 times through. It has no equal. The writing and acting is superb.
Hey, Amazon. If you think a new Stargate series won’t perform well, consider that fans continue to religiously watch episodes from 20+ years ago.
My wife and I have the Blu-rays in constant rotation and usually watch an episode every night. We’re in the middle of our 21st marathon (currently SG-1, Season 6, Episode 4 - Frozen). Not a week goes by without Stargate playing in our house. Our daughter has watched it countless times and knows the intro music by heart.
Stargate has seen us through good times and bad. Rain and shine. Elation and heartbreak. It has a quality that hasn’t been available on television in decades. It will always be part of our lives and that’s a testament to its greatness and why it should live on with new episodes that preserve the spirit of the original.
You want a hit? Rethink the absurd decision to cancel the new series with the original team. Give them what they need to do their work. Then release it and check the numbers. Afterwards, remaster the original Blu-rays in 4K as an anniversary edition and release it alongside the new series.
You will be met with the enthusiasm of a fan base like no other.
Take a chance on this team. Take a chance on the fans. You will not be disappointed.

A Letter from Gen X
I’ve read the letter from Gen Z from early this morning and the response from the Boomers around noon today.
As someone born in the late 70s, I sit right in the middle. We watched our parents get laid off in the 80s and 90s. We saw pensions disappear and loyalty to companies punished. We entered the workforce during multiple recessions and the beginning of mass offshoring. We were told to “just go to college” right before tuition exploded and wages stagnated.
We are the generation that saw the betrayal in real time and still tried to play by the old rules.
To Gen Z: Yes, it got harder. The ladder was pulled up. The social contract was broken. Many of us feel the same anger you do.
To the Boomers: Some of you fought it. Many of you did not. Too many went along with the cheap labor policies, the trade deals, and the open border experiments because it made their 401(k)s go up and their house values increase. You benefited from the system even as it started to crack.
We Gen Xers are the ones who had to adapt. We became cynical early. We watched both parties sell us out. We saw our parents’ generation get discarded and decided never to fully trust institutions again.
The truth is simple: The generations before us built something great. Then politicians and global interests slowly sold pieces of it off. Each generation since has inherited less of the original promise.
We don’t need more blame. We need to stop the bleeding.
The country still has incredible potential, but only if we quit pretending the last 40 years of policy were accidental.
A tired but still fighting Gen X
Doom and Age of Empires creator Sandy Petersen blasts Amazon over their handling of Stargate:
"1) get handed a massively popular IP that spans 17 years of successful shows."
"2) realize it has millions of loyal fans, desperate for more. They are now in their 40s and 50s, flush with money. Eager to teach their kids & grandkids about Stargate."
"3) you could start with this. You are already three steps up the ladder to huge success. The fans will evangelize it, if you don't wreck the IP. Don't believe it? Look how the fans evangelized Battlestar Galactica after its 30 year hiatus. And the initial Dr Who reboot after 15 years."
"4) cancel the project because you want a "new take" that will eliminate all the loyal fans and turn them into bitter enemies."
"It's like an ancient Greek play about hubris."
Why are corporate execs like this?
The new Stargate series is dead. The reason Amazon cancelled it has me absolutely infuriated.
This show could have been massive, the timing could not have been better. The news is full of ancient alien conspiracies and actual advancements in space exploration. Nearly every sci-fi property is failing their target demographic. Star Trek sucks, Star Wars sucks. What an opportunity to create a great show; squandered.
Amazon's Stargate series was created by show veterans and designed to respect the established lore, and thus respect the dedicated fanbase.
The executives at Amazon thought they knew better. They read the script and did not believe the show would appeal to an audience outside of the established core viewerbase. They told them to abandon the world that had been built up over 17 seasons to appeal to a mythical 'modern audience'. The showrunners refused, held their ground, said 'I die free', and thus the show was cancelled. Massive respect to them.
As a LONG time Stargate fan who has watched through SG1 at least half a dozen times: I would rather have NOTHING than a betrayal. I would rather we never get another Stargate property again than see them do to my favorite show what they've done to The Lord of the Rings with 'The Rings of Power'.
Impudence!
This is an actual quote from SG1: "Never underestimate your audience. They're generally sensitive, intelligent people who respond positively to quality entertainment."
Four ideologies shape the Bitcoin community. Maximalists bring conviction. Capitalists bring integration. Technologists bring innovation. Fundamentalists bring preservation. Bitcoin reaches its full potential when these four forces work in harmony.
Unfortunately, I am no longer aligned with @AmazonMGMStudio's new programming strategy. Apparently they want their projects not to appeal to fans & existing audiences. Now our creative differences run so deep, it required an outright cancellation of my Prime Video Membership. 1/2
How are Democrats cheating in L.A.?
Let me show you…
There are 26 registered voters at this toilet in Los Angeles.
I’m not kidding. I have the voter records. See for yourself. The only thing here is a stinky port-a john inside an empty parking lot.
No homes. No mailboxes. No businesses. Yet TWENTY SIX ‘people’ are casting ballots here.
Straight-up voter fraud out in the open. This just a glimpse of what’s happening under Gavin Newsom.
This is why California desperately needs Voter ID — and we must pass the Save Act NOW.
"Britain has always been a nation of immigrants."
I don't think it has, mate.
"Diversity is our strength."
I don't think it is, mate.
"You are spreading hatred and division."
I don't think we are, mate.
"We're in charge of this country."
I don't think you are, mate.
Dear @AmazonMGMStudio my name is David. I am gay and therefore I am apparently your entire target audience. So as a sacred cow of all media, I wanted to say… please uncancel the Stargate show from @martingero@bradtravelers and @BaronDestructo
Stargate already has universal appeal. The franchise had 17 seasons in the most cutthroat era of television. Since that time the fandom has done nothing but grow!
If every Stargate fan tuned in, you’d have one of the biggest shows on streaming. It is offensive that you allegedly consider us to be inadequate and not a built in benefit.
Please reconsider your decision and allow this show to continue. The fandom is here to either empower you or resist you. The relationship you want to have with the fans of this massive franchise is entirely up to you.
@amazon dial_the_gate! I grew to love the series many years after its release. I brought my wife into the fold and she loves it. Bring it back! We need excellent scifi!
