@Jmarksloan AI checkers are digital snake oil, they simply do not work. Would encourage you to look into that more before discounting applicants based on a problematic "tool".
What an incredible two years it has been at CHLA. I had a fantastic #CPEP experience thanks to a wonderful team of superstar medical microbiologists and mentors @DienBard @ccpathmd. Passing the senior fellow baton to @jackstatmicro now!
Today we report a detailed map of interactions between the immune system and the gut microbiome. @MicrobiomeTcell led the charge w/ help from Aishan Zhao and Kat Atabakhsh. @Nature 1/40

Struggle to provide stewardship of Broad Range PCR? Wish there was an objective system to help communicate expected ROI and limit low yield/low impact testing? An intuitive scoring system is a step in that direction https://t.co/7lt9Csgiye

@ASMicrobiology A thread...
Today we report that removing a strain from a complex microbiome can ripple through the community in an unpredictable (& useful) way. @MinWang_18 was the mastermind, with help from Mark Brown, Stan Hazen & crew. @CellCellPress 1/25

I got goosebumps the first time I watched you present this work at a Leducq meeting years ago. The translational application was so tangible to someone like me who often struggles to understand the impact of many "high impact" papers. Thank you for this contribution and congrats!
Today we report that an engineered skin bacterium, swabbed gently on the head of a mouse, can unleash a potent immune response against a distant tumor. @yerinchen led the charge w/ help from @DjenetBousbaine, @VeinbachsA, @BelkaidLab. @ScienceMagazine 1/26

Conclusions from analyzing 12,000+ paired urinalysis & urine cultures:
① 10K CFU/mL threshold is better than 100K CFU/mL for detecting a UTI.
② Negative UA exhibits high accuracy for predicting the absence of a UTI.

Great occasion for my 1st tweet! Proud contributor to this @Nature perspective on the ongoing debate questioning a fetal #microbiome. With 46 experts in #microbiome#science and related disciplines, we assess the evidence. The answer, an unambiguous ‘No’ https://t.co/AK9JOyQGvs
Christopher Walsh: 1944-2023
A giant indeed: the impact of his work is staggering. But Chris was even more impressive as a mentor. He was immeasurably devoted to, & loved by, his trainees. Nothing made him happier than doling out his wisdom. Superhuman & human at the same time.
Excited and proud to see @LJOsborn's paper from his @CCLRI PhD work in its final form!!! 🎉🎉🎉

Finally out! We looked at over 2,000 genomes to see how well the SGTF did at calling variants across multiple #SARSCoV2 waves. Really good genomic signature to rule in first Alpha then Omicron (BA.1, BA.4 and BA.5). https://t.co/pWv0BrsRGJ @mini_kamboj@evrnyc@MSKPathology
