Today Jose Cartagena entered a guilty plea for animal cruelty and was sentenced to time served since his arrest on Dec. 21. He also was sentenced to a year for the separate felony gun charge. Thank you to everyone who cared about Zeus, esp. @JohnGarridoIII and @SafeHumane !

Jose Cartagena’s hearing on Zeus will be on April 25 at 9 a.m at 5555 W. Grand. He has been in custody since Dec. 21 — has not posted bail that was given for skipping an earlier hearing on animal abuse and a subsequent felony gun charge (unlicensed, loaded gun when arrested.)

In court today, Jose Cartagena’s hearing was continued until April 27, so he can first face the felony gun charge. He remains in custody since his arrest on Dec. 21.

@Richard50457126 @CPD1617Scanner He was arrested for skipping court for the animal cruelty charge. When that happened, CPD found a loaded, unlicensed gun in his van, so he’s facing a felony, too.

The man who is accused of abusing a dog in a video that went viral this fall is back in police custody.

Officials say he failed to show up in court for the animal cruelty case and he had a gun in his vehicle when they finally tracked him down.
