@janecoaston LOL. The Colorado Trail is great trail for getting a taste of (almost) that. (It swings south at Twin Lakes, but there are trails up over Independence Pass that would connect to Aspen.)
Should only take 2 weeks or so what with modern resupplies and all 😎
@chloergibbs@josh_t_dean I know the song but initially got it wrong because kids are much older and clearly my brain associates it with school-bus related information.
Fascinating example of the thinking fast and slow principle in the wild.
@EconoTodd Oh! Interesting cognitive experiment actually.
Because you’re right. Yet I automatically thought “school bus”.
I know the song. But am not in the age where I sing it regularly. So my quick (and wrong!) recall clearly stores it near “school” info. because that’s where I sang it?
@jessesingal@CathyYoung63 Perhaps we can ask the questions of what we can change as a society to make these kids feel more comfortable in the skin they were born in.
For gender to mean *less*.
@jessesingal@CathyYoung63 And a lot of people know trans kid who were *literally* suicidal before gender affirming care and are now thriving with it.
I make no claims to any firm beliefs other than this: those kids alive and happy is better than depressed and suicidal.
Instead of attacking care /1
@RadioFreeTom@shansquared We had to memorize it in 7th grade, and have known it ever since.
Probably one of the few exercises in rote memorization that was actually valuable.
@charles_gaba Completely pro-choice. Female.
He’s spot on.
No such thing as a “good” abortion. Plenty that are the best of bad options. Figuring that out must be up to the pregnant woman.
And we should do a lot more to prevent unwanted pregnancies so she’s not facing that choice.
@HistoryBoomer There is information in the indictment though?
Yes I realize only partial and indictment documents are the government’s side, but it was quite a bit of information / facts.
@HistoryBoomer You may have confounding problems here. Both lack of information AND how brains store knowledge.
Took me a while to pull this up. Apparently for my brain Event —> date is much better recall than date —> event. Also just bad at specific date recall in general TBH.
@kevinrsours @questauthority fair.
I actually asked it to turn a webpage into a table of data. then when that was hot garbage it made up data. and when I asked it where the data it gave me came from it told me it never gave me any.
it was kind of spectacular actual - textbook gaslighting
@questauthority Having used ChatGPT a grand total of one time I do not understand how anyone walks away without realizing it’s a talented bullshit artist with no depth.
@theSecretBarn @HerbertHistory Aside from traditional Tex-Mex and BBQ, Texas also has a huge immigrant population and the food bonanza that goes with it. The food scene in Houston flies under the radar but is absolutely amazing across the full price range. Prob city’s best factor.
@JohnBrown_Stan@C1ew @SophieHiss @Lady_Historian OK. But if folks find it far easier to engage using a particular modality, doesn’t that suggest the concept still has worth?
Saying people only learn a particular way isn’t helpful. But neither is implying people learn equally well regardless.
@LLou06 @SophieHiss @trailheadmike@LisaOGiggles @Lady_Historian LOL. We are opposite. I slept through so. many. lectures. in college. Just don’t learn well that way.
But textbooks? Would remember where on the page the information was located.
