Our study using ligand- and structure based screening and showing that the cystic fibrosis drug ivacaftor is an AcrB efflux pump inhibitor to combat #AMR is on #MyACSCover. Well done team!

The #AURA2023 report on #AMR is out today, just in time for Antimicrobial Awareness week 18-23 Nov 2023. Take outs: Antibiotic use in Australia is still too high, especially in aged care. Our work on AMR in aged care shows worrying levels of resistance https://t.co/Z8metoDLWd.
MEDIA RELEASE | The Commission has today released Australia's most comprehensive report on antimicrobial use and resistance trends.
Find out about potential harms from antibiotics and the ongoing threat of #AMR.
Read highlights in the #AURA2023 report. https://t.co/J9VmhGGhgo
NEW DATA | Last year 21.8 million antimicrobial prescriptions were dispensed in Australia.
Our latest report on #antimicrobial use and resistance highlights why all Australians should care about overuse of #antibiotics.

Phone Bacteria
How dirty is your phone? It was fun to look at the microbes present on the phone of @Amelia__Moseley from Behind the News on #ABCme who is one of the ~45% of people regularly browsing on her phone in the toilet. Luckily no poo particles.🧫

@mark_blaskovich Yes @mark_blaskovich . One can learn a lot from wastewater 😉. Very smart indeed.
We are delighted that our work got some recognition though.
Eye drops recalled after US drug-resistant bacteria outbreak https://t.co/uJalTu32jC
P. aeruginosa is #AMR against many antibiotics and can cause serious infections when found in pharmaceuticals such as eye drops. Read more about this superbug at: https://t.co/QN7m52Vu5q
#Antibiotic R&D pipeline remains insufficient to tackle the growing spread of #AntibioticResistance & #access to treatments is still a challenge...😔

Training and capacity building in Fiji on Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing. It was such a pleasure to work with these lovely and diverse group of people and support their fight against #AMR using #EUCAST guidelines as part of the EMAR project.
It was a great opportunity to present our work on #AMR in #AgedCare at the #AMRSummitSA today and to meet and talk to so many interested in combating AMR.
Thank you @nadinehillock for the lovely photos.

I just saw this powerful and deeply moving documentary on the devastating effect of #AMR in ADL. Thank you @dianeshadersmth for sharing this and raising awareness. You are right: so many deaths due to AMR are not attributed as such - hence the silent pandemic.
@LabVenter look at how biocides contribute to the development of #AMR. New PhD student Owen will work on the formulation of responsible cleaning products with a lower risk for #AMR development. Huge thanks to @DIIS_SA, @MTPConnect_AUS, @UniversitySA, @sachiefsci and Hygiene Co.
In spite of the global crisis of #AMR, another pharmaceutical company abandons antibacterial drug development. We need alternative models to fund such programs and support for researchers at academic institutions working on anti-bacterials.
Johnson & Johnson stops development of all antibacterial programs. Sigh!
J&J developed Levaquin, bedaquiline, and several other life-saving antibiotics.

Great work by @Yang99887766 from @LabVenter. Well done Yang 🌟
Thanks also to our medicinal chemistry collaborators, Ting Guo et al from the lab of Ma Shutao at Shandong Unversity.
Drug efflux pumps play an important role in #AMR by causing multidrug- and biocide resistance. Our newest study on #DrugDiscovery yielded compounds that can reverse resistance to #antibiotics and slow the development of antibiotic resistance.

Together we achieve better.
Congratulations to @LabVenter's amazing 2 @UniofAdelaide Masters of Biotechnology students @sida0323 and @HanbiaoChen on passing their degrees with flying colours with projects on #AMR@UniversitySA.
