In spite of the global crisis of #AMR, another pharmaceutical company abandons antibacterial drug development. We need alternative models to fund such programs and support for researchers at academic institutions working on anti-bacterials.
Training and capacity building in Fiji on Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing. It was such a pleasure to work with these lovely and diverse group of people and support their fight against #AMR using #EUCAST guidelines as part of the EMAR project.
#Antibiotic R&D pipeline remains insufficient to tackle the growing spread of #AntibioticResistance & #access to treatments is still a challenge...😔

#PowerOfAntibiotics
Antibiotic-resistant infections caused 5 million deaths in 2019. In 2020, hospital-onset #AMR infections and deaths jumped 15%. In 2023, superbug outbreaks have gripped our attention. The time to act is now @CentreImpactAMR @WHO https://t.co/KHrxlJx5UO
It was a great opportunity to present our work on #AMR in #AgedCare at the #AMRSummitSA today and to meet and talk to so many interested in combating AMR.
Thank you @nadinehillock for the lovely photos.
@LabVenter look at how biocides contribute to the development of #AMR. New PhD student Owen will work on the formulation of responsible cleaning products with a lower risk for #AMR development. Huge thanks to @DIIS_SA, @MTPConnect_AUS, @UniversitySA, @sachiefsci and Hygiene Co.
Well done to @sida0323 and @fusheng5741 on completing your Masters degrees. As two valued members of the @LabVenter, your contributions this year at @UniversitySA have been stellar!
Together we achieve better.
Congratulations to @LabVenter's amazing 2 @UniofAdelaide Masters of Biotechnology students @sida0323 and @HanbiaoChen on passing their degrees with flying colours with projects on #AMR@UniversitySA.

We are so proud to congratulate Anteneh on completing his PhD with us here at @LabVenter . More of Anteneh's exciting work will soon be published and we look forward to sharing that here. Well done Anteneh!
Congratulations Dr Anteneh Amsalu Geremew on obtaining your #PhD on #AMR pathogens from @UniversitySA. 🎉
It was such a priviledge to share this journey with you and to see this thoughtful and promising young man develop into a confident and very capable scientist.
Pleased to share our newest paper: Combatting Acinetobacter baumannii through Cinnamaldehyde derivatives! Well done to all involved. Read the paper here: https://t.co/y0jDkcBJtw
Our newest paper: Compounds that act against the WHO's most urgent priority pathogen. Great work @WCChai from @LabVenter on #AMR.

#MicrobeoftheMonth! Can you guess who I am?
1) I have a sweet, grape-like aroma.
2) Most of the time, I don't cause problems—but I can infect everything from the blood to the lungs.
3) I'm known for my sticky biofilms.
Leave a guess below & stay tuned for the big reveal!
Thank you so much @mahjabeenkhan58. It was good to see #AMR feature so strongly at #2022ASM#AUSSOCMIC. Nice also to see some photos of my talk as I forgot to take some. 🤗
A picture to warm a supervisor's heart. It is so nice when post-grad students befriend each other, support one another, and work together towards a common goal. @Yang99887766, @ann_hahahah, and @sida0323 from @LabVenter are hard at work to combat #AMR. 🥰
This is evolution on steroids!
Scientists found a colistin resistance gene in Pseudomonas that mutate 1000x faster than other genes.

At the @ASM_SANT_Branch student awards Yu Wang introduced her amazing work on the discovery and characterisation of a novel carbapenemase in a flawless presentation.
Antimicrobial-resistant infections killed an estimated 4·95 million people in 2019. This is a silent pandemic, one that does not attract much attention or research money. #AMR

Congratulations to the Venter Lab's newest PhD candidate and RTP scholarship recipient Yu Wang. Yu will work with our team to identify and characterise antimicrobial resistance mechanisms on dangerous pathogenic bacteria. We look forward to sharing Yu's findings in the future.
