Single-party Labour Governments DO NOT WORK. Single-party Tory Governments don't work either. But FPTP works for the Tories! Account run by @AndyWatson75 #FBPPR
If the UK Labour Party in its current form were to cease to exist today what would it be best remembered for? The NHS? Maybe. But leaving the undemocratic Winner-Takes-All Electoral System known as FPTP intact arguably overshadows this, due to that system's Tory dominance.
2024 was a good year for the Electoral Reform cause. What about 2025? Could this be the year @UKLabour finally takes concrete steps to introduce PR or will they continue to prop up the undemocratic electoral system which guarantees Tory Dominance? #ProportionalRepresentation
There has never been a by election post war where both Labour and the Tories have campaigned and NEITHER has finished in the top 2.
The enormity of what #GortonandDenton might represent cannot be overstated.

The next online meeting of Make Votes Matter Warrington will be on Monday 10th November at 8pm. If you are local to Warrington and Cheshire and would like to join the meeting, please get in touch. #PRnow
@DaleVince You can also make the argument that Labour are in this mess due to their support of First Past The Post elections over many decades. The cycles which have seen the Cons govern 2/3 of the last 100 years is a part of how FPTP works. #PRnow

It's an empirical fact that First Past the Post has a right-wing bias.
*All* countries that use similar voting systems have parliaments that are on average more right-wing than their own voters.
Proportional Representation, meanwhile, has no left/right bias in either direction.
Are you watching @Keir_Starmer ? Even if you somehow stay in office beyond 2029, we all know you won't be PM for much longer and Labour will continue to be in Opposition more than they will be in Government over the long-run! #ProportionalRepresentation
The @coalitionavenir broke their multi-party deal to bring in proportional representation. Now they’re on track to lose not just their majority but every seat.
Life comes at you fast. Don’t waste the chance to implement proportional representation when you have it.
@paulmasonnews If Labour were a truly democratic party committed to move away from First Past The Post, and towards a fully Proportional Voting System, then that argument would be totally irrelevant.
Labour is at its lowest ever popularity, BEFORE Corbyn’s breakaway to the left party is even launched.
Not one Labour politician or mainstream commentator is calling Starmer an existential threat.
The moment he rejected PR this was always going to happen. 🤷🏽♂️
#GetPRDone
@Dr_Bekka_UK Starmer is doing what Corbyn did from 2015-2019, and win under First Past The Post, which Corbyn now says is going to come to an end. In a similar way that gravity pulls a body to the earth's centre, FPTP over the long-run always has a right-wing bias & right-leaning cycles.
Jeremy Corbyn isn’t handing the next election to Reform.
Keir Starmer is, by chasing Reform voters and alienating his own base.
Labour left the left. Corbyn’s new party is giving the left a new home and someone to vote for. The blame lays firmly with Starmer, not Corbyn.
@RupertLowe10 If we want to be a successful country, like modern day Germany, we should in fact pursue more meaningful devolution across Britain. We need Devolved English Regional Assemblies.
“Will Keir Starmer have the courage to do away with a system that gave his own party 63% of the seats on just 34% of the vote?”
...asks @WillHayCardiff in @guardian...
“If he is serious about putting country over party, he must.”

If 120 Labour MPs can force PM Sir Keir into a humiliating climb down, then it is increasingly clear this Labour Govt's time may come and go quicker than many would have hoped 12 months ago. Perhaps it is time for Labour to legislate for Fair Votes? #ProportionalRepresentation
With 5 parties regularly polling above 10% & Labour now far from certain to even be the party with the highest vote share come 2029, the very thought of Labour clinging to First Past The Post is looking more and more like Russian Roulette by the day. #ProportionalRepresentation
@getprdone IF they don't legislate for Proportional Representation by the time the pendulum is clearly going to be swinging one way only, then there can be no doubt that Labour in its current form, there will be questions about its continued survival.
Join us in Frodsham this coming Saturday, just ahead of the Runcorn and Helsby By-Election. We will be taking photographs displaying Make Votes Matter banners, as well as engaging with the public on a fairer voting system. #ProportionalRepresentation#Runcorn#Helsby#Frodsham
We are now 9 months into Sir Keir's Labour Government. With little sign his government will legislate for Proportional Representation, how long do you think Labour will be in office before it swings back the other way to the Conservatives?
@sales_belinda The way First Past The Post electoral cycles work, on the balance of probability, Lab will be in power for between a term and a half and two terms max. Then, when the pendulum swings, Cons will likely govern at least 3 terms. One of a number of reasons we need electoral reform.
In GE2019, the Tories got 56% of seats on 44% of the votes. In GE2024, Labour got 63% of seats on 34% of the votes.
We need to change this system so that seats match votes - voters should get the MPs and policies they vote for.
#ChangeTheVotingSystem
Those people who support retaining First Past The Post elections at the expense of a fairer proportional system should take note that early elections also happen in countries that use FPTP. New Canadian PM Mark Carney has just called an election. #ProportionalRepresentation
