1.5m UK households waiting for social housing.
People will wait for 100+ years for a family-size social home.
Private renting is too expensive.
Tories depleted social housing.
Govt promises to build 18,000 social homes a year.
Crisis won't end soon.

‘Shelter argued local authorities were struggling to build social homes because of the stranglehold of a £29bn housing debt that was passed on to them by the central government in 2012 as part of a council house financing agreement.’

Socialism in the suburbs event today.
Great speakers on critical topics including privatisation in NHS, housing & health, why we need a right to food & importance of the environment to our health & wellbeing.
@CHinchliffMP ended session with an inspiring speech.
Water campaigners are winning the argument for public ownership.
Water today - housing, energy, public transport, data, education, health & social care tomw.
The essential foundations of our economy must be run in the public’s interest, not profitable interest.
Labour needs an ambitious programme for living standards to get back on the front foot. That’s what Socialism 26 is about.
Let’s give Labour’s rank and file something to shout about – and a real say in delivering the change we promised.

Six years on, sisters Bibaa Henry and Nicole Smallman are in my thoughts. I promised their mum Mina that we will never forget.
We must do more to protect women and girls, to build a society where no family has to endure such a loss or dismissal due to the colour of their skin.
1/4 of @TfL 's escalators have reached end of life according to new information found by @EllyBakerAM.
She's calling on TfL to prioritise replacing ageing escalators before failures become more common, to keep London's public transport reliable.

“Children are not a commodity to be bought and sold. Private profit & public service are always oil and water. But if there is one service above all others that capital should never be allowed to get its filthy hands on, it is children in care.” https://t.co/IX1sid7ooC
Cat Knight, solicitor at GLP, said: "With one woman killed in the UK every three days, Michaela's tragedy is all too common. The criminal justice system is failing women and putting them in danger."

A powerful, inspiring, yet sobering #RightToFood community session at Tower Hamlets Town Hall tonight.
The voices, experiences and ideas shared by local people will be invaluable in shaping the Commission’s work. The unanimous support for the #RightToFoodCommission was both humbling and energising.
But there was also deep concern at the growing number of people being pushed into food poverty by the cost of living crisis. In one of the wealthiest countries in the world, that should shame us all.

Join me, @SocialistHealth and @SITSuburbs this Saturday 6th June - we’ll be discussing how housing and other policies impact our health and how we can respond.
We want to hear from you and there will be plenty of opportunity to have your say!
I'm standing for Hackney Central,
my home for over forty years. I live here, in this community, as your neighbour, not nearby, on Wilton Estate. I know this place. I live it. I will fight for things that matter and make sure that Hackney Central has a voice that truly knows it.
🧵 Why are so many Labour members supporting @AndyBurnhamGM?
I’ve been a member for 1/3 of my life; held a range of positions from CLP Sec to Vice Chair of London Labour, from CAC to being a Cllr.
I met my husband in the Labour Party. Yes, we “point of order” each other 😩
📣 Important event tomorrow evening in neighbouring Tower Hamlets.
Right to Food UK Commission wants to hear from East London people with lived experience of food insecurity.
Please share with relevant networks.
All evidence gathered will contribute to a plan to end UK hunger.
In Parliament with housing activists calling to kick developer cash out of politics.
Developers profit from high prices for low quality and donate to buy influence.
We should listen to those living the housing crisis instead.
