Yes, in fact, I do think the guy flipping burgers at McDonald’s should be able to afford rent, bills, and groceries with his paycheck alone. That’s kind of the whole point of having a job and I can’t believe this is considered a radical position for me to take.

my grandpa died when i was 18. my grandma pulled me aside and told me every horrible thing he did to her bc she needed to tell someone. she’d kept it a secret for 60 years. she made me promise never to tell my dad bc she didn’t want to ruin the image of his father in his mind

Every single problem at home is solved by women, illness, admin, personal interaction, social network, cultural obligations, religious rituals.

used to bartend the late shift at a hotel downtown.
Around midnight, management started asking us to walk servers to their cars after closing.
Most of the guys complained about it.
Said it was “overkill.”
One night, a new dishwasher offered to walk me out.
Sweet kid. Barely 20.
As we crossed the parking lot, he laughed and said,
“You really think someone’s gonna jump out of the bushes?”
Before I could answer, the security guard near the entrance yelled,
“HEY.”
A man was crouched between two cars three rows over.
Just sitting there.
Watching.
The dishwasher went dead silent.
