@nopasaran505 #GlobalStudies150 like @ilovepostt mentioned, it was always to baffling to me that there was a point where a single (pretty pricey) water bottle was used as a personal status symbol, as well as a mean of individuality. And like you showcase here, it truly has become commodified.
Feedback was extremely beneficial for me this time around, fixing up my ab as well as in operations suggestions made me feel a lot more confident about submitting my final #globalstudies150
Making my infographic really solidified how my understanding of things can completely change depending on the way that it’s presented… visualizing my researching really put into perspective how far I’ve come! #globalstudies150
@JizelleS2@t_beamlak I like how you commented on this , I have seen so many people on social media create a bad association with Russians and the current conflicts going on… some people have completely villanized a whole country and have created an excuse to create prejudice. #GlobalStudies150
Peer reviews really do put in perspective the way others are reading and perceiving your work; It’s a fundamental part of writing- especially in a research sense #globalstudies150
@ahyang22 @LC22Lisa #globalstudies150 I love both of your points, I also wanted to add to Audrey’s point on how this ties into the lack of representation of men’s mental health. With “manliness” being so stigmatized, we can clearly see how hard it is to vocalize emotions let alone reach out for help
I really likes what some people mentioned regarding the refrigerator and it’s cultural significance on the discussion posts this week; it went over my head how most families use this to showcase their own family culture- with pictures, schedules, mementos, etc. #globalstudies150
The annotated bibliography was a lot… but I feel like I learned so much about my topic in a plethora of different lenses; really comes to show the importance of categorization and refining research #globalstudies150
@JizelleS2#globalstudies150 I thought the same thing. I felt the hoarding of food and kid’s toys to be particularly surprising, as I grew up in a home where we would try and rid of things we don’t need/use
@SchoenbacherLC2 I completely agree. I wanted to your idea by adding a quote by Marx; He really blamed the system-“they were just responding logically to the system that they lived in.” #globalstudies150
Synthesizing my research this week really put some things into perspective… It really surprised me how much of my topic was able to connect to capitalist ideas… is there ever an end? #globalstudies150
@Ro_MercedesA#globalstudies150 this quote really stuck out to me. I feel like this perfectly encapsulates Marx’s ideals, as well as oversimplifies one of the deep rooted systematic issues within capitalist idealisms.
@SchoenbacherLC2 I completely agree with you and Lisa. I feel like TTC opened my eyes to a potential subtopic for my own research project, will I be afraid of what I find? #globalstudies150
Wow, The TTC documentary really opened my eyes. I cannot believe the ignorance that I grew up with, and this documentary really gave a good wake up call. After I finished the documentary, I really took some time to reflect on how consumerism at a personal level. #globalstudies150
@ahyang22@JizelleS2#GlobalStudies150 I really appreciate how you pointed this out Audrey, it really comes to show how deep rooted these systemic issues are, and the documentary really demonstrates that really well. Lack of media, lack of awareness, more money to the rich.
@r05_sarah I completely agree! I think some of the reasons I struggled with it the most was the amount of interpretations that the components of cultural capital are subjected to… but I think by the end of the week I was able to grasp the just of it :) #globalstudies150
By our cultural capital- the way we are socialized, reinforced, etc. can all differentiate depending on our cultural capital traits. What do you guys think??
I’m not sure if it’s just me, but I think the the cycle of socialization comes hand in hand with cultural capital; as cultural capital looks at the environmental factors that dictate our character traits, whereas the cycle of socialization is heavily influenced- #globalstudies150
Seeing everyone’s take on their objects and how they relate to Bourdieu’s Theory was super cool - it really opened my eyes on how such simple objects can signify our identities and our personal cultural capital #globalstudies150
