@gs150ak I just kind of did both. I gave a history of it then how the specific object that I based my AB on was made. It was hard to find information on how it was made but I also talked about how it's used and who uses it.
I am proud of how I did this quarter. Thinking back to personal Identity I really do connect with that concept that I am really not who I was 10 weeks ago. What global studies topic did you guys connect with most? #globalstudies150
While doing research for my infographic I am starting to dislike waist training corsets more than before. These were marketed as a tool to help women feel and look their best yet what really happened was they ended up harming themselves in most cases. #globalstudies150
@t_beamlak I think that is a great view to have and I wish people would have thought this in the past with similar situations I feel as though it would have prevented a lot of prejudice. #globalstudies150
With all that is happening in Ukraine in Russia, there is the possibility of the war affecting us. Like we read this week they export to the U.S. My question is what are you all worried about in relation to the war? #globalstudies150
While looking at the good and the bad of corsets I saw the role of hegemony in a lot of the reasons why women wore corsets which is sad because it feels like these women were simply in subjection to their role so they harmed their bodies #globalstudies150
@ilovepostt The definition of fashion does sort of work with that but I feel like it's not talked about because when people think about fashion they think about clothing and jewelry, not phones.
When I was looking into corsets I found the negative response that the globalization of corsets has in the ottoman empire with a lot of men and doctors saying that tight-laced corsets were not hygienic. #globalstudies150 they said...
So in the middle-class America video, it seemed kinda strange to me how these people lived with so much stuff. Does anyone feel like they are kind of hoarders the way they keep all of these things? Or is that too extreme? #globalstudies150
@Ro_MercedesA Well to start not buying excessive amounts of clothing just because we can afford it. Thrifting is a great way but also doing our research on what we buy is important. Also making our own clothing and taking old clothes and modifying them is a great trend. #globalstudies150
What role do you guys think values and morals play in capitalism? Do you guys think a majority of capital gain requires the sacrifice of morals? #globalstudies150
While doing my research I found a lot of articles on how the show Brigerton influenced the spike in corsets recently and I thought it was super neat how the mediascape has the influence to create trends so quickly #globalstudies150
@gs150ak I am always on youtube reels and this is so true. People have such strong and brutal things to say and social media allows these people the platform to do so. It seems like people don't listen rather when they hear something they do not like, they go into defense mode.
The fact that I had no idea about Rana Plaza
breaks my heart because it was such a massive event that has such a lack of publication. Why do you guys think there was a lack of coverage on these incidents? #globalstudies150
In my library research, I found an article about corsets and sexuality and the historically iconic playboy bunnies. I am finding such a rich history in corsets and the library activities have really helped me. #globalstudies150
@kassmsmithh Thrift stores are great, not buying absurd amounts of clothing only to wear each one once, and honestly just do your research about the brand that is producing the clothing you buy!
This picture somewhat portrays cultural capital works. A group of caucasian people is shown living a high-class life and the happiest is the caucasian man. Who may have been more privileged due to race. #globalstudies150
"The schools cited safety concerns, and required any student who wears a hoodie to school to keep it in their locker until the day is over." This seems dramatic. Do ya'll think the culture of the area where this took place affected the ban? #globalstudies150
@Jamie25096 I feel like naturally as humans we are pretty selfish and often our first concern is about ourselves. I feel like the perspective of only seeing and thinking about our own future is similar to the thinking of Wakanda. #globalstudies150
Looking into Luman's Globalization theory I'm really curious to know what scape is the most influential to a society? And what are some past examples of that? #globalstudies150
