@m11780729 I think it's because of how much news coverage the war has been receiving so far. And social media platforms also most likely helped spread the information across demographics. So all this is probably why the topic is heavily discussed today.
@MadelynnSakay Going into the annotated bibliography without ever writing one before, I definitely struggled with finding good scholarly sources, it took a while till I eventually got the hang of it.
Reflecting on the course content, the most significant concept I learned this quarter was personal identity. After doing the annotated bibliography and infographic, I really saw how my identity applied to my chosen object in ways I never knew before. #globalstudies150
The 2 peer reviews helped me in so many ways. The useful feedback i received now gave me confidence to further improve my bibliography. Shoutout to those that reviewed my AB. #globalstudies150
@JizelleS2 I think with the war it could contribute to inflation in the U.S and affect the worldwide economy. I’m also concerned with the damage in Ukraine.
@NathanKok20 Since Ukraine isn’t part of NATO, sadly I I don’t think the U.S right now will interfere much to stop the conflict. However only time could tell once the situation escalates even further
@ilovepostt The object I’m researching on is iPhones and I can agree it’s similar to fast fashion. And just like clothing, very little news coverage is reporting iPhone’s social impact and sustainability crisis, as the symbol of the iPhone is overlooked as our technological innovation.
@SchoenbacherLC2 I think having some general popular or substantive sources without peer review could still reveal a pattern or overview of the research topic. But they’re only surface level of analysis though, so peer reviewed journals are def better at that.
@m11780729 Referring to the video from the middle class America & stuff assignment, I think since the U.S culture centers on capitalism heavily, the increased size of refrigerators in American household could symbolize the consumer ideals.
@Laila_LC22 From the Karl Max assignment, I saw the argument that capitalism doesn’t have to end but can be made more ethical instead. And this would require a good regulation, moral politicians and businessmen, transparency…etc. So ethical capitalism seems to be a tolerable solution.
@NathanKok20 I think this is a very compelling question. My object was iPhones and even though Apple’s suppliers exploit factory workers, Apple still remain as a dominant force today. It’s most likely from the psychological attractions and innovations Apple products brought.
After working through dominant conversations I saw how similar Apple production is to fast fashion. Scary and saddening how capitalism have harmed society, especially factory workers. #globalstudies150
@gs150ak It definitely is sickening with the lack of news coverage around the severity of terrible working conditions across various parts of the world. Even I wasn't fully aware of the amount of social injustice applied to common workers in factories
After watching the true cost, I wonder if it’s too late to change how the economy operates today? It definitely stunned me knowing how damaging fast fashion is to the society and our planet. #globalstudies150
@AqdasTanweer I think being invested in watching football in general already shows a good amount of cultural capital, as entertainment is usually seen from a sustaining lifestyle. So being able to watch the SuperBowl probably means you have easy access to internet TV #globalstudies150
@NathanKok20@MasynWaite1 I don't believe the color of masks heavily alters social status, but I think the surgical mask that appears blue has more popularity due to how commonly it is used, which also means most would validate it more than cotton or cloth in a social setting. #globalstudies150
From Bourdieu's theory of cultural capital, I was reminded of the importance of how well we do in school. As the institutionalized state of cultural capital shows our effort heavily amounts to a better social standing. It was a good motivation for sure

In “Globalization II - Good or Bad?: Crash Course World History #42”, John Green really spoke to me when he laid the message "to understand the present, we have to imagine the future". And not just for the future of myself, but the world I perceive. #globalstudies150
@ilovepostt I think globalization definitely played a role in the cultural blending and increased world economies. So it is necessary for the connections brought by international trade.
