When Abbayi Kanth shared the heartbreaking condition of an ancient stepwell in Andhra Pradesh's Peapully Mandal on social media, people across the region responded with action.

More than 300 volunteers came together to clear years of plastic waste, food packets, coconut shells, temple offerings, and neglect, revealing the historic stepwell hidden beneath.

The restoration is more than a clean-up story. It is proof that civic sense begins when ordinary people decide that preserving our heritage is everyone's responsibility.

Today, on 6 September, eight years after the landmark judgment reading down Section 377, I want to remind my friends that LGBTQ+ Indians still do not enjoy the same rights as our straight counterparts. We have no right to marry, adopt jointly, or inherit as spouses. We cannot open joint bank accounts as a legally recognized couple, nominate each other as next of kin in many institutions, and even face tax implications when sharing assets or money. In medical emergencies, we have no legal standing in each other’s lives.

The fight for equality did not end in 2018. It has merely entered a new phase. For the sake of a healthier, fairer society, we must all work together to ensure equal rights and dignity for everyone. 🌈

I am at Bengaluru airport. I booked Uber. Middle man tried to cheat me saying Uber takes longer time and so on. Airport has very good emergency response team and they guided me properly towards Uber pick up point and saved me from getting into the trap of private unverified taxi.

-Se mataba por ideas que no se entendían.
-Se condenaba por palabras que no se habían leído.
-Se odiaba por conceptos que no se sabían definir.
No era convicción. Era repetición.
No era fe. Era eco.
No era certeza. Era obediencia ciega.
La violencia no nació del pensamiento. Nació de la ausencia de él.
El odio no se propaga a través del conocimiento. Se propaga donde el conocimiento no llega. Y cada vez que una sociedad renuncia a educar no crea ignorantes, crea armas humanas que no saben por qué disparan, pero están dispuestas a hacerlo. Ese es el precio invisible de la ignorancia. Y siempre lo paga alguien que no hizo nada para merecerlo.

This reminded me of an incident.

KCR had narrated something he observed during his Singapore visit - the only foreign trip he took.

He said one thing that stood out there was how safely women could walk alone even at midnight without fear. To understand that culture firsthand, IAS officer Smita Sabharwal reportedly tested it by walking on the road late at night.

She returned safely. Then came initiatives like She Teams, massive CCTV expansion.

But a decade later, incidents like this remind us of an uncomfortable truth:

Policing can control fear to an extent.
Technology can monitor crime.
But mindset is the real battle.

Because even today, a woman standing alone after midnight still attracts the wrong attention from far too many men.

That is the reality IPS Sumathi’s midnight field exercise exposed.
