The gold-to-S&P 500 ratio is now near 4-year highs.

 If history has taught us anything about markets:

When the yield curve inverts, gold tends to significantly outperform overall stocks — and here we are once again.

After creating the % of yield curve inversions measurement in 2018, my research shows that going back 50 years:

When this indicator goes above 70%, the gold-to-S&P 500 ratio tends to appreciate on average by 72% for the next 2 years.

More importantly:

This indicator tends to trigger an even stronger signal at times when equity markets are historically overvalued, and commodities are cheap — which is the case today in our view.

The average return of the gold-to-S&P 500 ratio during the 1973-4 stagflationary crisis and the tech bust was +147%.

I believe we are on the verge of seeing something similar today.
