George Floyd. Daunte Wright. Amir Locke.
Every time a Black person is killed by @MinneapolisPD, @mnhousegop has nothing to say but ALWAYS stand in the way of police accountability.
We stand with @MaryMoriarty's decision to pursue charges in this case.

@MinneapolisDFL had a bad experience in my caucus, including neighbors selecting delegates from a pile of papers because they knew they’d vote for a candidate, or because they had “diverse sounding last names”, among many other very biased decisions. Where do I file a complaint?
Also, a technical flaw resulted in delegate info not coming through on paper forms, with no contingency plan (insert very bad process for selecting delegates). Consider changing that next time?
Minnesota cops said they cannot accept a potential ban on white supremacist affiliation in POST certified officer ranks, cuz it will hurt recruitment. Please let that sink into your every consideration of each and every city/police budget conversation.
🧵Many folks recently have tweeted about how its hard to talk about what’s going on in Minneapolis without sounding like a conspiracy theorist. Nobody seems to want to openly have this discussion, understandably, out of safety concerns. Local media doesn’t dare report on this.
The retaliation has begun against organizing staff: Mayor Frey intends to dismantle the Office of Performance and Innovation, an office of Black staff with a Black director. 🧵 #whereisOPI
🧵Today Mpls City Council will be voting on the appt of Heather Johnston as City Coordinator. @ccostaffmpls are asking council to vote no & to open a competitive search process (as was promised by @MayorFrey months ago).
Today a coalition of @CityMinneapolis staff, current and former, from varying backgrounds, positions, experiences, spoke truth to power and unmasked the white supremacist culture that permeates the walls of City Hall.
Our fight is not over.
Huh.
"Frey will nominate Heather Johnston to serve as the interim City Coordinator before the Executive Committee on Monday, July 19. The City will undertake a competitive search for a permanent replacement in the weeks and months ahead."

Short 🧵: Yesterday, I went the balloon launch and worship service for 15-year-old Deshaun Hill who was killed by gunfire in community. I marched last week in protest of the killing of Amir Locke by MPD. (1/4)
@JoshMartinMpls The charter can also be amended by a unanimous vote of the council + Mayor, so there is a (probably not viable) path which does not include it going to the ballot at all.
I'm giving notice of intent at our next full city council meeting on 2/10 to introduce subject matter for an ordinance amending the city charter and creating a department of public safety.
I’m glad the MPD utilization report came out, and it is later than we’d wanted, but also staff gave basically this same information on 11/13/19. Some electeds listened and tried to act on it, and some waited on findings from a $170k consultant 🤷🏼♀️
So, the city released the report we should have had before the November election. We should have had this to compare to the fearmongering from Mayor Frey, Chief Arradondo, several CMs who eventually won, and groups like All of Mpls.
@BullyCreative And, importantly, how are we going to pay for alternatives if we can’t reduce MPD staff while they’re workload is reduced? What is the plan now?
