I am grateful to Chancellor Daniel Pullin, Provost Floyd L. Wormley, and Trustee Marilyn E. Davies, for this great privilege and opportunity to serve as the next Marilyn and Morgan Davies Dean of the Harris College of Nursing and Health Sciences @TCU Texas Christian University.
This is a bittersweet moment for me—personally and professionally.
One of my closest colleagues, Christopher Watts, Ph.D., served the TCU community faithfully for the past 18 years as a faculty member, department chair, and dean. Dean Watts was not only a colleague—he was also one of my closest friends and a faculty mentor @UCF.
Over the years, we remained close and shared similar professional interests in the care of individuals with voice disorders. My dear friend passed away in January and was the one who encouraged me to pursue this opportunity.
Thank you Josh Ward, PhD @Korn_Ferry for the call that eventually led to the submission of my materials—and to the TCU community for the demonstration of values in action throughout the search process.
This is an exciting time at TCU—a top 100 @usnews university with a bold new strategic plan, LEAD ON: Values in Action™ that prioritizes student-centered growth, research and scholarship, athletics, and community engagement.
There is a reason that @TPR_Georgetown has named TCU 3rd best-run university, 4th most beautiful campus, 5th best athletic facilities, and the 1st overall happiest students.
With an A+ rating from @Forbes, robust $3B endowment, and ranking of 8th out of 876 private and not-for-profit colleges for overall financial health—TCU is thriving—at a time when many institutions are struggling.
There are not many universities that offer the best of every aspect of college life; a selective, nationally ranked university, one of America’s most beautiful campuses, access to one of the fastest growing job markets in the nation, a first to second-year retention of 94%—and big-time college athletics comparable to schools that are three times its size—with over 25 @Big12Conference Championships since joining the league in 2012.
I was especially drawn to the TCU Harris College of Nursing & Health Sciences with its top ranked programs in nursing; nursing anesthesia; kinesiology; leadership in social work education; clinical opportunities in the Miller Speech and Hearing Clinic; and newly launched programs in applied health sciences, occupational therapy, physician associate, and a growing Ph.D. program in health sciences.
I look forward to partnering with and supporting the college’s learners, faculty, staff, and alumni to align work in the college with TCU’s vision of being a world-class, values centered university.
I look forward to joining the Fort Worth and TCU community.
Until then, LEAD ON—and GO FROGS!

🎉 Long overdue congratulations!
Congratulations to my first Ph.D. student, @novaleski Carolyn Novaleski, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, an Assistant Professor at the @UNC at Chapel Hill on receiving her first major @NIH grant award.
Dr. Novaleski received an #NIH#K23#Career#Development #Award. The project is funded by the NIH National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute.
Carolyn was my first PhD student @VUMChealth@VUHearSpeechPhD@VUmedicine
She completed a #postdoc @MonellSc and a #clinicalfellowship in #speech #language #pathology @MayoClinic
Dr. Novaleski has worked at, not 1 but, 2 different #public #land #grant #state #flagship #carnegie #R1 #research #intensive #universities, @michiganstateu and @UNC at Chapel Hill.
I am very proud of her remarkable achievements over the last 10 years. Carolyn joined my lab @VanderbiltU after the completion of her master's in speech pathology from @BloomsburgU
She is a talented young scientist who has demonstrated #resilience #dedication #grit and #perseverance. Her NIH K23 has been funded for 5 years.
The project will seek to determine whether #cough #symptomology predicts responses to different treatments for #adults with #chronic cough.
Be on the lookout for this talented young scholar. It has been a privilege to watch her grow as a scientist, and I am so proud to see her making important contributions to #science. I look forward to continuing to watch Carolyn soar high and make impactful contributions towards advancing #patient #care.
Wishing her continued success! 👏👏
