(1/6) Yesterday we held an Estimates Day debate relating to HM Prison and Probation Service. Chair @neill_bob highlighted that England and Wales currently has the highest imprisonment rate in Western Europe, and that this is set to grow.

@hantsconnect 1/2 Pitt Down/West Woods today. It was disgusting the amount of dog poo bags left in piles on the ground and flung into the trees. If there are no bins people should take it home. Can more be done about this?

2/2 Further, the bird breeding season has begun and there are too many dogs running around off the lead disturbing wildlife. I love dogs but others might not like dogs jumping up at them, especially small children. If they do that they should be on the lead.

@KieranMullanUK you said Judges told you juniors aren't efficient enough. As a junior barrister you learn on the job, therefore you take longer to prep. Further, there aren't enough of us, therefore taking on more work than we should, we should still get paid properly.

further, we still lose money, as the delayed trial gets listed in the future when we would be doing other work, so you lose the ability to do future work on those dates plus have to prep the trial again. I hope that clarifies. 2/2

@KieranMullanUK on 6/9 Justice Committee, you asked whether there would be work to do when trials are delayed. Yes, sometimes, but it most likely won't be a trial as they don't get listed that last minute, so it most likely won't be well-paid work 1/2...

All-out industrial action by the Criminal Bar is just the latest symptom of a criminal justice system that is severely and recklessly underfunded. And it is victims who are ultimately paying the price and will continue to suffer the longer this goes on.
