I met with a group of teenagers yesterday. One of their teachers had suggested that I talk to them about career paths because they're all anxious about exams, university choices and future work.
Instead of talking to them, I listened, and the actual problem was very different.
“To put it into more relatable terms, considering what’s been normal for the most recent 30 years, the statistical chance that any February day would be as warm as it is right now is 1-in-280,000.” https://t.co/VOuxOJl1Dx
We hear a lot about waste from the clean energy industry. It's definitely something to be aware of and account for ... but I found this graphic in @DanGearino's latest @insideclimate newsletter to be pretty eye-popping. https://t.co/UWb8KUhUcu

This is why climate change is not "linear" — why it's not a slope, but a series of cliffs.
NYC infrastructure is designed to handle about 1.75 in of rain per hour.
Today's rain averaged about 2 in.
Only 1/4 inch, that tiny increment, overwhelmed most of the system.
Lahaina, the historic Hawaiian community destroyed by the Maui wildfires, was not always dry and fire-prone.
It was only because of European colonizers, who illegally diverted its water to irrigate sugar crops, that it became a tinderbox.

When it comes to climate action, individual choices matter; but systemic change is key. That's why the most effective thing we can do is to advocate for action where we work, study, live, and invest. By using our voice, we can truly make change contagious. https://t.co/BliacRy2Kx
BREAKING: Four US Senators are demanding the Justice Department use a "racketeering" law to sue @Chevron and other oil majors over their 50-year campaign to deceive the public about climate.
Such a case – which allows triple damages – could literally shut down the industry.👊⤵️
Worth remembering that in 2022 governments spent over $1,000,000,000,000 subsidizing an industry that has been knowingly profiting from the death of millions & the burning of all our futures for over 50 years.
That’s how fucked up our fossil-fueled-capitalist-system is.
There’s a single statistic everyone in the world should know this summer: fossil fuel subsidies are ten times greater than climate finance.

🌊Heartbreaking scenes from the #FloridaKeys: At Cheeca Rocks, renowned for its high live stony coral coverage, 99% of corals are bleached. Even the resilient 'massives' are struggling. Rising water temperatures are to blame. It's time for #ClimateAction. #SaveTheCorals
