@worldpaulcarr@TomOHanlon17 A new party takes time to settle! The grassroots who ultimately set policy are very far removed from sf which will become far more distinctive and clearer in time as the party evolves.. check out their constitution and you will see the difference! chalk and cheese!
This week has revealed the character of many who call themselves Christians to be anything but.
Christa Pike is a human being - a living, breathing human being. She is one of God's children.
She did commit a horrific act that took another's life. Colleen Slemmer did not deserve to die. Christa has acknowledge this.
She faced her execution with a courage that few could endure. That's a fact. Christa Pike endured her execution. That the state failed to kill her is on them, not her.
Now we have "Christians" screaming that the state needs to go back and kill her again. They're incensed that she is being treated in a hospital, wasting taxpayer funds when she should be dead.
Really? Maybe God didn't want her to die. Maybe God chose for her to live and made His will known clearly.
Christa Pike is the only person in history to survive two doses of phenobarbital. That isn't nothing - that signals a divine intervention.
Yet we have a plethora of "Christians" screaming that she should die. They don't want to hear about Mercy or grace. They insist that the Old Testament advocates the death penalty.
However, Jesus Christ gave us a NEW Covenant.
The same Christians who claim to worship and obey Jesus, give a middle finger to Him when it comes to killing another human being they've deemed no longer worthy of life. Christa is no longer a human being to them. She's an object that can rape, mutilate, torture and kill with impunity.
This is Christ's response to these apostates:
37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[a] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b] 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
-Matthew 22:37-40
"Law and the Prophets." That actually means something. EVERYTHING in the Old Testament is now subordinate to these two commands. That's it. You either accept Christ, or you reject Christ.
I've been saddened to see how many will so easily reject Him if it means they can kill a helpless woman to make themselves feel superior.
The "Christians" trying to rationalize the "holiness" of killing Christa Pike need to take a very long, hard, and unflinching look in the mirror.
No matter what they accuse Christa of doing to Colleen, they are doing far, far worse. They will be held accountable for their deplorable, detestable acts.
"Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold,"

@helerina Decent people who find it wholly incredible that human beings (many of them doctors) could have perpetuated such well known historical atrocities and genocide throughout the years and thought surely these types of people do not exist today got their answer!
Yesterday I asked what justice would actually achieve by executing Christa Pike thirty years after the appalling murder of Colleen Slemmer. Last night Tennessee tried to answer that question. Pike was given two doses of pentobarbital and did not die. Instead, she was taken from the execution chamber to hospital, where she is now reportedly receiving life-saving medical treatment. Governor Bill Lee, who had refused her clemency request, has suspended Tennessee’s remaining executions this year and ordered an independent investigation.
The grotesque irony is difficult to ignore: the state deliberately administered drugs intended to kill a human being and, when they failed, had to provide medical treatment to save the life it had just attempted to extinguish. None of this diminishes the horror of what Pike did to 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer. Justice requires that we remember Colleen and resist any attempt to sentimentalise her murderer. But perhaps this extraordinary episode should make us reconsider what justice demands now.
Pike can be imprisoned for the rest of her life. Society can be protected. Her crime can be punished. She can continue to confront what she did and, we should pray, come to repentance.
Yesterday I argued that mercy does not abolish justice. After what has now happened in that execution chamber, Tennessee has an extraordinary opportunity to demonstrate precisely that.
Commute Christa Pike’s sentence to life imprisonment. Let justice stand, and let mercy have the final word. https://t.co/xtudyuUoC2
@stellaomalley3 if she survives the botched attempts to murder her she should be allowed to live! the death penalty is barbaric inhumane & abhorrent! 2 wrongs do not make a right!
