Can ChatGPT change your mind? I wrote for Tech Policy Press about what we find + where AI persuasion research should go from here:
How will trust in AI evolve? What can it really persuade us on? Will it reach resistant audiences?

When you’re in a breakup and your friends all admit they were heavily lying when they said they liked him, but figured I was lying to myself anyway being with him so I’d figure it out eventually 🤡
@natgl7 excellent paper!!!! been mulling over how this feeds into the larger discussion on responsible AI development (and where that should fall/how anti-intellectualism would react). thank you for sharing!
no matter what happens tonight, this paper gives me hope that we haven't lost all to anti-intellectualism 😌 always excited to see new perspectives on AI vs politics (with an extra level of pride when the first author happens to be my emergency contact❣️)
‼️ NEW WORKING PAPER ‼️
Can a conversation with ChatGPT reduce certainty in false or unsupported beliefs? If so, is this because AI as a source is particularly persuasive? OSF preprint: https://t.co/uul4Li2F9U (Feedback welcome!)
Here is a not so short 🧵:
My brother in law kicked me off the family Netflix plan the week they added the latest season of greys anatomy like ok so he hates me??? Very offensive
I love how I’m at a transportation conference where the audience looks like *this* and some guy just said the reason we don’t learn from Norway or Japan on infrastructure construction is because they don’t speak English 🙂
Ugh I hate how I shit on Canadians for paying more attention to American politics than what’s actually happening in their own country but then this is obviously more fun than talking about Ontario’s education minister quitting after 10 weeks 😫
@KirkLubimov Wow Toronto’s mayor marching in one of the most famous Toronto events that happens once a year and injects hundreds of millions of $$ into her city? How dare she have fun while she’s doing it!!!
@jamespmcleod I don’t recall this backlash when Cressy/Layton motioned for the City to pay for Tragically Hip events during their final tour. But McKelvie introducing a cost free initiative that doubles as a food bank fundraiser- imbecile. Wonder what’s the difference 🙃
