Ronnie Whelan was four days short of his 18th birthday when he joined Liverpool FC from Irish side Home Farm on a free transfer on 21 September 1979. That's 47 years ago to the day.
Ronnie had to wait a year and a half to make his official debut, but then it took him just 27 minutes to score his first goal in professional football. The Irish midfielder went on to play 493 games for the Reds, scoring 73 times. His most memorable appearance has to be the League Cup final against Tottenham, when he scored a late equaliser and added another strike in the extra time, as Liverpool won 3-1 and claimed the trophy.

@jackiewillcox Totally agree. Meant to say saw first FA cup before the game with Gerry Byrne and Milne. Although I am getting younger! Enjoy the game♥️
