Air Peace is trending because the Labour Union has grounded its flights and locked departure entrance at Abuja Airport and Lagos.

Aviation union is saying Air Peace owes ₦25bn statutory dues and is restricting staff from unionising. Interestingly, Air Peace staff are also protesting against the aviation union’s protest.

Apparently, they too blocked the runway with air peace buses to shutdown all movements.

To emphasize that the union does not represent their position of interest.

Because for 12yrs since Air Peace’s inception, they’ve always been involved decision making, they’re never owed, and have good welfare including HMO.

More importantly, Section 40 of the 1999 constitution, guarantees their freedom of association. Therefore, the Aviation union is trying to create a rift between them and their employers.

The statutory due owed by Air Peace is a 5% ticket sales charge meant for aviation agencies, which the union alleges the airline has failed to remit despite charging passengers for it. The outstanding amount has now accrued to ₦25 billion.

This standoff has left travellers stranded in both Lagos and Abuja. All flight scheduled from 6:30am have been delayed, with a ripple effect felt across other airports, particularly Owerri.

As of now, contrary to the airline’s statement, they are yet to provide useful updates to passengers, who remain stranded as at time of this report.
