Tucker Carlson on route to create a purist MAGA party trying to capture the most powerful current in American politics today
His 10 point manifesto is what many MAGA voters had wished Trump would be able to achieve in terms of foreign/security policy
JD Vance might be the GOP candidate most closely aligned with these values

I am hyped up right now. This just dropped in my email.
This is the perfect imagery of the point of the book: America from 1870 to 1945 was a land of fast economic growth. It was a land of fast egalitarian growth in that the bottom 90% saw increases in living standards that rivaled and maybe exceeded those of the top 1%.
America, from 1870 to 1945, experienced the world's first egalitarian enrichment.
My latest article is all about Botswana, the miracle of its incredible growth, and how that seems to now be over due to...

Visiting most of the leading Chinese AI labs, I'm struck by a culture that's extremely well suited to building LLMs with fewer resources, but one happening in a very different ecosystem, more companies at play, almost no data industry, etc.

War is reshaping the Middle East, with longterm implications for regional order and security.
@DEsfandiary and @ZiadMDaoud looked at how relationships among Middle Eastern countries have shifted since Oct 7, 2023. Their conclusion: more division, more violence, and more tension among regional powers.
Their analysis is featured in today’s @business Big Take by @PeterMartin_PCM@raeedahwahid and @TomFevrier.

Economic growth is my favourite topic in the world to read and write about. I've come to view it broadly as civilization's capacity to solve problems simultaneously. It is the causal mechanism for almost everything we care about.
A comprehensive case against degrowth.
CHART OF THE DAY: The global energy system, split by regions and source (from the annual @EnergyInstitute 'Statistical Review of World Energy,' celebrating this year its 75th edition). Do look at that big chunk of grey at the center of the chart — that's coal (China and India).

‼️ Reports of Starmer’s anger - threatening to resign his own seat to create chaos for a Burnham suggests a mix of arrogance (refusing to accept the writing on the wall) and vindictiveness (wanting to damage the party or successor rather than facilitate a smooth transition).
It’s not the behaviour of someone putting country or party first at a moment of crisis. It risks making the exit even messier and further damaging Labour’s reputation.
The country needs a clean, orderly transition. @AndyBurnhamGM has the mandate from Makerfield to deliver real change.
No more drama. Time to move forward for the country.

NEW: Fascinating analysis by Bloomberg @economics on what rolling back Brexit would mean for the UK economy
Our economists’ central estimate is that the long-term hit to the British economy caused by leaving the EU is 2.5% of GDP
That’s lower than some previous estimates but still about £30 billion in forgone annual tax revenue
But they find closer relations with the EU would only deliver a limited long-term recovery
Rejoining the customs union would add 0.4 percentage points to GDP
A Swiss-style arrangement would add 0.8 percentage points
Joining the single market for goods (rejected by the EU) would add 1.2 percentage points
So as Labour debates its EU policy, this analysis suggests closer ties would provide a boost but hardly a silver bullet
