@LetoIIIAtreides@CameronCorduroy People need to study pre-American history, a vast majority of the colonists were basically kicked out of their home nations for being too retarded/crazy for even the native retards/religious nuts. If America as a landmass wasn’t so gifted in resources, they would have died
@Graffitinights1@MercuriusFilius I mean those are all personal choices on how you want to invest, as opposed to having 3/4 of your comp automatically locked into a single stock for the vest period. I don’t think hitting 8-9 figures is realistic in either tech or finance outside of edge cases.
@MercuriusFilius@Graffitinights1 Another big one, especially amongst socially-mobile or generally in-the-know people, is that much of the money hype in tech is RSU-based. Looks great while planning retirement but if you’re expecting a certain lifestyle based around liquid assets you’ll be sorely disappointed
@LinkofSunshine I'm going to be honest, as a GenZ , the price doesn't help but that's not the real issue. Even if cocktails were $10, many of my younger friends still would not be interested in going out to bars. They do not like socializing with anyone they are not already friends with.
@davidjoemax @DKThomp I feel like it’s missing a lot of nuance, the implication was they shouldn’t drink as teens but should drink at some point in their life. Current data seems to suggest they aren’t drinking and are choosing to remain sober even into adulthood.
@akanoego@Noahpinion The US has a blend of 1. enough state power to actually lock people up en mass 2. a uniquely violent culture compared to similarly-developed nations 3. a large population. You won't really find a country that has that exact combo, they have at most 2/3.
@BeezyManzell@Noahpinion I think the biggest issue with "just use more patrols" is that currently police don't do their job. A simple walk around NYC subway stations will show groups of 3-5 officers standing around while people obviously high on drugs walk past them disturbing commuters.
@TimeCommander@pe_tsar Using gaslit to describe a phenomenon that has been happening since humanity invented agriculture is crazy work. Turns out humans like being around other people and socializing, while having access to amenities within walking distance.
@PAstynome I think they are all running the same bet - hoping someone else steps on the demographic mine first. It's really going to come down to whether the US or China decides to kick shit off first, and how bad they let it get.
@cmvalentineb@atlanticesque@zenpundit Literally yes, unless you’re going to claim next that agriculture is also unnatural and we must return to pastoralism.
@SpaghettiKozak I think that’s a slight misunderstanding of what the lyrics are trying to convey. They’re saying that these men who supposedly won medals for such bravery in WW1 are now abusing innocent civilians, it’s supposed to call out their hypocrisy.
@2ndTimothy4_3@trouble_man90 Cool and so who did the voters pick when they had less candidates to choose from? Surely if Bernie was as popular as you say, I bet the voters decided his policies were a good idea and voted accordingly? Oh wait…
@bigseb31213@cszabla I think it makes sense when you realized a lot of companies overleveraged due to going all-in on AI. If the market suddenly starts selling off, the collateral a lot of them put up starts dropping in value, triggering a market crash. Everyone is holding their breath rn.
@keysmashbandit@MOOOOrion Cool so in this post-AI world you speak of, what metric determines who gets a shitty 1BR apartment in a bad neighborhood vs who gets a 4BR house in the suburbs with a 3 car garage? No one seems to be able to cross this hurdle so far without reinventing salary tiers.
@sebworldwide96@unusual_whales Hey genius, what happens when you suddenly have a major expense hit during an economic down cycle? Plan on selling at a loss?
@nobodyknows2322 Hot take- this is good. Small private colleges used to represent a hybrid between affordability and prestigious education. Now they are neither. People either go to massive sports/party schools or elite Ivy/Ivy-adjacent schools for networks.
@BoringBiz_ I think it will take longer than that, not because the tools wont exist, but simply because aging Gen Xers and even elder Millenials that dont know how to use AI will still be relying on doing it manually.
