Hardware wallets are moving beyond cold storage.
Our latest research looks at how @era_wallet, @RyderWallet, @hashwallet, @DigitShield_HQ, and @ELLIPAL approach some of the categoryโs biggest questions:
๐น How should recovery evolve?
๐น What must remain clear before approval?
๐น Where should the security boundary sit?
๐น What role could AI play?
The approaches differ โ and that disagreement may tell us where self-custody is heading next.

๐ค Do wallets need more native chains โ or just better access across them?
Adding another chain can expand what users can reach. It can also mean another integration to build, maintain, test, and support.
The alternative is broader access without making every network a native part of the wallet.
That creates a real product trade-off: more native support vs more flexible access.
We put the two approaches side by side ๐
At what point does adding another chain become overengineering?
And when is native support still worth the extra complexity?

What are the first signals from our hardware wallet research?
Our recent discussion with hardware wallet teams highlighted several themes worth exploring further:
๐น Wallets are trying to reduce seed phrase friction. Backup cards, multi-share recovery, and recovery contacts can make backup and recovery easier without removing the seed phrase itself.
๐น Users need to understand what they sign. Clear transfer details are becoming as important as secure signing itself.
๐น Thereโs no single โbestโ wallet UX. Some users want maximum control. Others want fewer steps and less technical complexity.
๐น AI could help detect risks โ but should it influence what happens on the hardware device itself? That question is still open.
These are preliminary observations, not final conclusions.
We break down the first findings in the cards below.
If youโre building a hardware wallet, wallet infrastructure, or security product, weโd like to hear your perspective.
Your input may contribute to our upcoming research report.

Should crypto aggregators start exploring MCP servers?
MCP is moving into production AI infrastructure, and crypto teams are already experimenting with it.
For aggregators, the opportunity could be giving AI agents standardized access to:
๐น supported assets and networks
๐น rates and market data
๐น available exchange operations
๐น wallet and infrastructure services
The bigger question is whether MCP solves a real problem that existing APIs and SDKs cannot.
We explore the opportunity โ and the open questions โ in the cards below.
Would your team explore MCP now, or wait for clearer demand from AI-powered products?
Share your perspective. Your insights may contribute to our upcoming research report and AMA.

Hardware wallets are no longer just for storing keys.
They are becoming active interfaces for swaps, staking, DeFi, recovery, and increasingly complex on-chain actions.
That creates a new challenge: the better wallets get at hiding complexity, the more important it becomes to decide what they should never hide from the user.
On August 13, @letsexchange_io, @era_wallet, and @RyderWallet will come together for a live discussion on where that line should be drawn.
ERA and Ryder are taking different approaches to the same problem โ from on-device verification and signing to recovery, swaps, staking, and making self-custody easier to use.
Weโll explore:
โ What hardware wallets should automate โ and what they shouldnโt
โ How much users really need to understand before signing
โ How much a hardware wallet can actually explain about DeFi risk
โ What users need to know when swaps and routing happen in the background
โ Whether staking and swaps are changing what โcold storageโ means
โ Whether users are ready to move beyond traditional seed phrases
โ What the hardware device must verify independently from the app
โ Where AI-powered risk detection fits into hardware wallet security
This discussion will also contribute to upcoming
LetsExchange research on hardware wallet UX and security.
The research will focus on a practical question for wallet product teams:
Which operations should become invisible because they only add unnecessary complexity โ and which ones should remain visible because users need to understand what they are approving?

One week until @blockchain_rio.
This year's programme is less about explaining blockchain โ and more about solving practical infrastructure questions.
Some of the discussions we're looking forward to:
๐ต Can stablecoins become the default rails for cross-border payments?
๐ต What will finally unlock institutional tokenization?
๐ต Which blockchain infrastructure should financial products build themselves โ and what should they integrate?
๐ต Where is AI already improving crypto products instead of simply generating hype?
๐ต How can regulation accelerate adoption instead of slowing it down?
These conversations will bring together teams from @Ripple, @Tether, @XDCNetwork , @StellarOrg, @Cardano_CF, @solana, @CertiK, @Zcash, @RedotPay, as well as executives from Brazil's leading financial institutions, regulators, and infrastructure providers.
If you could have only one meeting at https://t.co/aBHWIDD41q, who would it be with โ and what question would you ask them?

๐คซ You use a privacy wallet.
Nice.
But who should you trust with your privacy?
A new wallet address doesn't magically erase your footprint. Metadata, address reuse, and the services you connect to can still tell a surprisingly detailed story about you.
That's exactly what we're discussing in Episode 55 of #LetsTalkCrypto.

We'll tackle questions like:
๐น Does a new wallet address actually make you private?
๐น Anonymous teams vs public teams โ who would you trust with your privacy?
๐น If nobody reads the code, does open source still build trust?
๐น What's the biggest privacy mistake crypto users make every day?
๐น What makes a wallet โ and a crypto exchange platform โ truly privacy-friendly?

Ever had this crypto moment?
๐ฐ You have USDT.
โ It's in your wallet.
โ You can't send it.
Because apparently you also need another coin just to move your coins.
Crypto sometimes feels like:
๐ Ordering pizza
๐ Pizza arrives
๐ Can't open the box until you buy a screwdriver
Thankfully, wallets are starting to fix this.
From battery systems in Tonkeeper (@keeper_wallet) and Simple Wallet (@smpl_app) ๐
To Gas Free transfers in UnityWallet (@unity_wallet), Klever Wallet (@klever_io), TronLink Wallet (@TronLinkWallet), and Tether (@tetherwallet) ๐ช
To smart wallets from Trust Wallet (@TrustWallet), Coinbase Smart Wallet (@coinbase), and Safe Wallet (@SafeLabs_) ๐ง
The industry is slowly making gas fees less painful for normal humans.
And honestly?
It's about time ๐
