@WhoresofYore This picture has been floated around by ppl calling it a bra & technically it looks like an extant foundational women's undergarment, but to call it a bra is like calling a gramophone an ipod. The side has eyelets for lacing, my guess is either an upper kirtle or a pair of bodies
@itsamini@annzhao_ In my experience in Canada, divorced women do not go by Mrs. I enter people's information into a database for work, when marital status changes, they either drop the title altogether, go back to Miss, or use Ms which is marital status agnostic.
@aquariuschicken@annzhao_ Oh my mom does this too! Her signature stamp still has her maiden name and Chinese she always uses it but in all English papers and documents she changed her surname to my dad's. I assume this was to "fit in"
@ottiliarhine Hello! I enjoy gothic fiction, all sorts of fantasy subgenres, early 18th century French clothing, and trying to marry common story tropes from Eastern fiction into my English stories.
@DrunkScribe Yup, there's a whole anime about a pessimistic man with a name that spells out "despair" when written sideways & has a very unlucky number of strokes making the radicals. There are a number of "puns" that only become offensive when written.
@DrunkScribe my mom was careful about which "spelling" of my name was luckier. Then some names have become negatively associated due to folklore or history. Lots of pitfalls with names... so I like to look up names of athletes from that country. Fantasy is a completely different ball game 2/2
@DrunkScribe this is complicated question, it changes depending on the whether it's a historical setting, fantasy setting, the culture of the character etc. like in east Asian names, the number of strokes in the radicals that make up the name have a sort of horoscope attached 1/2
@BubbleyBrain @joan_galt I have returned from my quest to my local Chapters Indigo! The categories are Ages 9-12, Teen, then Adult. Looks like some YA is in Teen and some in Adult but also some authors have books in both sections like Holly Black.
@ifdurdad@ryanqnorth If your music teacher includes Royal Conservatory of Music syllabus as part of your lessons (even if they also teach other methodologies) and you do the RCM exams, I would call that "classically trained" in the sphere of music, even if you didn't go to a music school.
@KingkillerFans like 10 years? I used to get super excited whenever I get drip-fed news about this series but I've decided that it'll come when it comes ๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ
@BubbleyBrain @joan_galt I feel like I'm going crazy or more likely misremembering... this is going to bother me until I next walk into a bookstore and check ๐ค
