Marlon Rice didn’t attack socialism. He attacked what he believes is a lack of focus on the issues facing Black New Yorkers.
For years, New Yorkers have heard political slogans about taxing the rich, freezing rents, and breaking political machines. But Rice says there is a bigger question that often goes unanswered: What is the plan for Black New Yorkers who are being displaced from the city?
According to Rice, more than 200,000 Black residents have left New York City over the last decade. He argues that this isn’t just a statistic—it’s families being priced out of neighborhoods they helped build, longtime residents struggling to stay in their communities, and children moving away because the city has become unaffordable.
Rice says the debate shouldn’t be about whether someone is progressive, moderate, socialist, Democrat, Republican, or independent. The real question is whether public policy is helping working class families remain in New York and build wealth for future generations.
If every political movement has a list of priorities, Rice asks: where do the concerns of Black New Yorkers fit into that conversation?
Watch the full interview and let me know your thoughts. Can New York solve its affordability and displacement crisis without directly addressing the communities that have been leaving the city in large numbers?

In this segment of my interview with Marlon Rice, a candidate for New York State Senate District 25, we discussed homeownership, generational wealth, and the potential impact of inheritance taxes on families who pass property down to their children.
Rice argued that homeownership has historically been an important pathway for building wealth and raised concerns about how certain tax proposals could affect families seeking to keep property within the next generation.
The conversation also touched on displacement, housing affordability, and the challenges facing longtime residents in rapidly changing neighborhoods.
These are issues that continue to generate debate across New York City and beyond.

Michelle Obama once asked her mother why she was holding Barack's hand on election night. Her mother replied, "His father left when he was two. He lost his mother to cancer. He was moments away from becoming the leader of the free world with no parents, so I took his hand."
Since Trump doesn't want this portrait of President Obama displayed in the White House, let's make this photo of our President go viral here!
RETWEET if you love @BarackObama!
Stephen Colbert and David Letterman paying tribute to Obama’s infamous tan suit at the Presidential Center opening is exactly the level of pettiness and historical accuracy I respect. 😂
Some controversies deserve a reunion tour.
@EonHuntley4BKN@JabariBrisport I was born and raised here in Bed-Stuy. I reached out to you both. I have questions. I don’t think I’ve seen either of you at our community board meetings. I contacted both of you on Instagram. I’ve heard nothing from either. I do get lots of fliers in the mail tho.

Trump illegally taxed working Americans through tariffs.
Took hundreds of billions. Got caught.
Got ruled against.
Now he needs to return every dollar.
No excuses. No delays.
