It doesn't matter if this isn't in your country yet. We should ALL be incredibly concerned about this
Being unable to play games that you paid for because you don't want to hand over your personal data is some bullshit
You can now only play 18+ games on Steam in Australia if you have a credit card, thanks Albo
"First they came for the gamers, and I did not speak out, because I was not a gamer"
Steam is now rolling out age verification in Australia for R18+ games, and the method Valve chose is already getting a lot of people annoyed.
The system asks users to add a credit card to prove they’re 18 or older and people don’t have a credit card and normally use debit cards instead.
Certain debit cards actually work and others not depending on the bank, which makes the whole system even more confusing.
And there’s another issue, people say they can be blocked from even viewing the store page for games they already own, including games like Cyberpunk 2077.
I understand that Valve need to follow Australia’s new age-verification rules, but making a credit card the main way to prove you’re an adult when for some people their account is over 18 years old feels unnecessary
