A small, organised campaign claim the tram to Granton will "destroy" the path.

This is wrong.

The proposals go above and beyond to keep people walking, wheeling, and cycling alongside the tram.

Battery-operated trams will avoid the need for overhead cables, allowing 70% of the trees to remain.

Trams will run on a single track at pinch points, ensuring the maintenance of at least three metres of width along 93% of the path.

This is a travesty, and we should call it what it is: rich neighbourhoods using their wealth and influence to prevent essential public infrastructure from reaching developing areas such as Granton.

Next Thursday, @Edinburgh_CC must ignore the blockers and APPROVE Option A.

30 years ago, Glasgow was at the heart of Europe's largest local authority.

It was a bastion of municipal socialism, building up high quality public services through redistribution across a tax base drawn from 2.3 million people.

Strathclyde kept water and sewerage services under public ownership, revitalised Glasgow as Europe's Capital of Culture and developed Britain's largest integrated public transport system outside of London.

It was then broken up in a malicious act of Tory gerrymandering. The wealthier suburbs were cynically carved out into tax sheltered enclaves, severed from the more deprived inner city districts.

It's time to restore Greater Glasgow as a regional engine for social justice, as well as the national and international influence it should enjoy as one of the UK's big five conurbations.
