Hand-coder and a terribly bad writer, with help of pessimism and cynicism, somewhere between AI haters and AI suckers, glossing over the world's decline.
@ai_sentience Your reductionism is interesting at first glance, but absolutely stupid at second. I'm looking for counter-arguments to your claim, but I find that where there is no argument, there is no counter-argument.
@ShraddhaShips I don't think this is possible. AI is just a mirror and reflects the person using it. Just because everyone is suddenly writing stories doesn't mean they can tell stories. That won't change even if AI gets better and better.
@arvidkahl True. It's not bad because AI writing is bad. But... It's not bad just because it's average. Itโs bad because suddenly everyone thinks they can write, and theyโre flooding the world with something that says nothing, just so someone can have a story.
@arvidkahl Personally, I don't enjoy these arguments, everyone can do what they want, but there is a clear distinction in the mindset between writers and AI writers. Writers have status. They want it too.
@arvidkahl Not actually write one and sweat a blood. That's the mindset of the product, a fast food, not the being. And this mindset of theirs is exactly what AI reflects. Writers are writers because they write.
@Resorcinolworks Haha, I see a lot of phrases in that picture that I have blocked here on X. ๐คฃ But thanks! I discovered a few new ones that I have to add.
@GWHayduke97 Probably because they are tired of thinking and having control over what they are doing. They voluntarily want to give up agency not because AI is better, but because they no longer care about their work. Maybe they just don't enjoy their work anymore. Just a guess.
For the first time I found a clever use for image generators. Visualizations for my worldbuilding. Not illustrations for my stories, but help in imagining what places, characters or things look like. Very useful.
The AI enthusiasts are starting to look like a cult to me. I wonder when they'll start wearing robes and sacrificing virgins. The worst are the Anthropic fans. I'm curious to see what it will look like in a year.
@TweetsA91248 That's fine my friend. I don't need every client under the sun. Plus, the vast majority of clients don't care at all whether I code by hand or use AI and how. They don't give a damn.
@thoughtlesslabs You'll soon start to get tired of sacrificing even that small part of your thinking time needed for prompting. The brain is actually a terrible lazy. Let it be lazy and it will be. And a lazy person gets tired of any work. ๐
@matterasmachine You see pragmatic use. I see cognitive and emotional dependence on the tool and its creator, who in his illusory idealistic need to think that only he acts correctly and irrational fear gradually becomes a dictator. This is how cults are formed.
Well, they had years to solve this problem, but they focused their attention elsewhere, on aggressive growth and profit. Safety in AI is currently just an embarrassing patch. Ilia could tell you.
The White House wants Anthropic to make Fable 5 jailbreak-proof before it comes back online.
Anthropic says perfect jailbreak resistance is not currently possible.
Security experts agree.
So now the fight is legal, technical, political, and deeply stupid.
