By the time many teachers retire, they will have spent well over $30,000 on union dues to your (or NEA’s) bloated, top-down lobbyist group.
I challenge ANY teacher to show me how their classroom is better off today—their profession less burdensome and bureaucratic—than when they began thanks to the thousands of dollars spent on AFT or NEA.
Funding corporate big labor is the definition of insanity.
7 years ago, I wrote about the NEA's attempts to prevent locals from breaking away. Like a toddler playing Chutes & Ladders, they changed the rules when the game wasn't going their way. They knew this day was coming and continued to double down on failed promises, poor representation, and placing social agendas over member interests. https://t.co/dHzFy709P6
The rise of finance unionism. The more Corporate Big Labor accrues and diversifies assets, the less it cares about members’ concerns…or dues.

So LA teacher union negotiated a raise. But layoffs are on the horizon as LA schools are underwater. Seems logical to me except where are the unions going to get the dues $$ they lose by layoffs? Didn't think this through did you?

Me watching wonks create “teacher advocacy groups” run by career politicians and lobbyists who’ve spent the last 15 years talking smack about those same teachers.
Members of UTLA may want to reconsider their representational options. Have working conditions improved based on those unions dues you’ve been paying to UTLA?
📢CONFLICT OF INTEREST ALERT… LAUSD Acting Superintendent Andres Chait, who’s currently leading the district’s negotiations with the unions and trying to avert a strike, is the brother-in-law of *TWO* UTLA leaders (Secondary VP Alex Orozco and Director Victoria Casas) and married to a teacher who’s a UTLA member?
That’s right. Chait’s wife, Laura Chait Orozco, is Alex Orozco’s sister, according to multiple LAUSD sources, who say that the relationship is well-known among employees though not openly discussed. Laura, a 4th grade teacher at Topeka Street Charter in Northridge, is also a UTLA member.
Alex is married to UTLA Director and LAUSD teacher Victoria Casas. https://t.co/z8hb8ks2Iv
Orozco is UTLA’s healthcare bargaining lead and one of its top organizers, so Chait is essentially negotiating with his brother-in-law on a contract that he and his in-laws will directly and indirectly benefit from - and could "allow" a strike that could serve to build his in-laws’ political careers.

The complaint even references reports of a so called “hit list” of educators who had spoken out about district practices.
Teachers repeatedly sought assistance from UTLA during this period. Emails show requests for union intervention, legal representation, and meetings with union leadership to address the retaliation.
According to the complaint, those requests went unanswered.
No formal grievance was filed.
No union defense was initiated.
