Under years and years of leftwing government, Canada is becoming more akin to China than the United States.  Its government-run health care system is a disaster.  It is one of the most antisemitic non-Muslim countries in the world.  Civil liberties are regularly trounced.  There are no gun rights.  And Canada is more socialist than capitalist.  The president is responding to a very hostile Canadian government.  What bothers me is that not only are the usual America-hating Democrats siding with Canada (as they side with all countries against our country), but so are some self-identified conservatives, who declare that the president started a trade war with an ally shortly before the mid-term elections.   POTUS had suspended tariffs but then put them in place because trade negotiations broke down and Canada insists on significant trade barriers to our autos, dairy products, alcohol, paper and wood products, and much more.  The president is defending the capitalist market system against a socialist government that has been using tariffs and trade barriers against our country, businesses, and workers.  His action is solidly conservative and principled and, yes, America First.
