@mccanne1xu I think jealousy was the main reason that Rye decided to not speak. It was safer that way for her. Jealousy is something that will always make the world unsafe and I think this story provides a good example of that. #xuengl205
I found it interesting how Rye suspected that the illness had taken away what everyone had valued the most (pg 409). For Rye herself it was the ability to read & write. Why do you think the illness takes took away what each person valued most? #Xuengl205
@mccanne1xu I agree. It seems that seemingly bibi was cured once her family left. Maybe that was freeing for her and allowed her to not be effected by whatever had previously affected her. #xuengl205
I found it concerning how Bibi was treated during Haldar’s wife’s pregnancy. Why did the truly believe that her affliction would pass on to their baby?#Xuengl205
I found it interesting that Finger mentions that fact that Helen wasn’t allowed to marry on pg.6. It seems to help provide context to the story but I wonder if that info wasn’t there how the story would look? #Xuengl205
@mccanne1xu I feel like her portrayal of a blind person differs from others in the fact that it doesn’t seem like Helen is blind in the story. Helen holds full conversations and almost seems like she isn’t blind. #xuengl205
@BenWaybright25 I agree. Learning the ropes of begging does make it seem more like a job. I think for some, begging is an actual job as they are unable to get a job. #xuengl205
I found it interesting that Maico’s father is so adamant that he keeps track of the money. I feel that being upset that you aren’t getting half of money earned from begging is slightly ridiculous. #Xuengl205
@mccanne1xu I think it was because they only really saw her when she wasn’t working. If they saw miss wilmarth working I feel like they could judge her more for her skills than her looks. #xuengl205
While reading “horsie”, I found it weird that the crugers disliked miss wilmarth so much even tho she was extremely helpful to them after Mrs.Cruger gave birth. I feel like you should not make fun of someone who is so helpful to you. #Xuengl205
@FischerXU205 I agree. I found that the most interesting. I feel like if the maids took big things that it would be more noticeable, which is why they took the small things. They still want to make money. #xuengl205
I thought this story was intriguing. It makes you think about how much insight the lower class has on the upper class. We saw this in what the maids would steal & how they would know obscure things about the houses & where expensive things were hidden. #Xuengl205
@mccanne1xu I agree. I think that in order to achieve social standing and make money, morals are abandoned no matter your class. Some people are more desperate than others, which is why we see those struggling to survive abandoning their morals more often. #xuengl205
After watching Parasite, I found it interesting that the Kim family was hired after being recommended by members of their own family. I think it shows, that in some cases, you must know the right people to make $, but most people don’t have those connections. #Xuengl205
@Mary182118 I agree. I also think the saddest part is that a lot of people don’t realize how poor some people in this country truly are. I think this is because the disparity isn’t talked about enough. #xuengl205
In Simpson’s story, it was interesting seeing the things she went through in the form of advice. I think it was able to show the experience of being poor in a way everyone is able to understand. #Xuengl205
I loved finally getting to see Michael express himself & and how freeing it was for him to do his drag performance (pgs 374-381). I feel like it is a prefect to show others it’s ok to express themselves. #Xuengl205
@mccanne1xu I think he did this to make us think as he is showing that stories can twist & be formatted in multiple ways. Atta is giving us the option to decide which version makes the story better. #xuengl205
@mccanne1xu I think it is because he was into other ‘girly’ things when he was little. Micheal’s mom thinks that because he liked Barbie’s and similar things, he would love shopping. #xuengl205
