@BrainAblaze I was on the swings, on my way home from school, the seizure started as I jumped off in the air. I woke up being carried by a nearby builder, my cousin holding my hand. I knew something was wrong cos he was crying and we were covered in blood, i was 7 and it was my first TC.
@BeagleandMe Yes, ignore, it’s hard, but I’m guessing a lot more people in that gym have been where you are, and will be supportive, and will be thinking ‘good on him 🙌’
@BrainAblaze I get a white noise and a strange smell, about 10/20 seconds before the seizure…it’s meant to give me time to find a safe space, sit down, call for help…yeah, that doesn’t happen…It’s just enough time to get terrified and panic that this is the one I don’t wake up from 🤦🏻♀️
@BrainAblaze Everything 😂 low droney noises, high alarm noises, smells, flashy lights, sunny weather, thunderstorms, air pressure, being happy, being sad, lack of sleep, too much sleep, LED lights, not eating enough, a boy called Giovanni when I was at school, stress, life itself 🤦🏻♀️
@BrainAblaze Myth - you will swallow your tongue during a convulsive seizure
Truth - it’s impossible, try it now, unless you bite it off first it won’t bend that far back
@empathadvocate@BrainAblaze Talk to your pharmacist, you shouldn’t take over the counter antihistamines but there are some that can be prescribed by the doctor…the pharmacist is the best person to know about which ones you can take with your meds
@BrainAblaze I would like any celebrity, who we know has epilepsy, who will actually talk about it.
Mainly cos we never know until they’re ‘well controlled’ and telling us we just need to change our eating habits or until they sadly die…
@BrainAblaze My GP once decided I should stop (not wean off) after saying ‘well you haven’t had any convulsive seizures in years’ I refused, because I’m not stupid and my meds were obviously doing their job 🤦🏻♀️ imagine if I’d been young and not understood as much as I do about epilepsy 🤦🏻♀️
@BrainAblaze I’ve talked to so many people who think like this and I find that it’s not worth giving them advice, they won’t listen. It’s sad but they have to learn the hard way that epilepsy is an individual condition
@BrainAblaze Everyone will probably have a seizure at least once in their lifetime…most won’t be diagnosed with epilepsy…learn the first aid and tell people what to do because the next life you save could be yours 💪
@BrainAblaze My neuro is generally too busy, I tend to ask the pharmacist about over the counter meds or meds for other issues, their job is all about the meds so they tend to know more about what problems might occur than a GP or my neuro
@sailor_jerry@BrainAblaze I have both NEAD seizures and epileptic seizures…I can’t tell the difference…a seizure is a seizure, it doesn’t matter why you have them, the feeling is exactly the same and it’s just as scary…cake helps for both types 😊
@BrainAblaze I don’t think there’s one person I know with epilepsy that hasn’t got a ‘faking it’ story…it comes with the territory and sadly it’s something that we deal with and move on…because if we focus on it then it makes life so much harder to cope with
@BrainAblaze Oh…and…talk to people who have lived experience of epilepsy…they will happily tell you all the bad and the good that will happen…doctors are great, but you can’t beat lived experience
@BrainAblaze Don’t panic! No question is stupid! Write everything down! Lists are your friend! Never lock the bathroom/toilet door! You will be fine! I know tiles look amazing but invest in cushioned flooring instead, you will thank me for that one 👍
@BrainAblaze I think if they were making fun of a ‘person’ or a group of people with the disability I might…but epilepsy itself I wouldn’t bother…it doesn’t deserve our respect…I’m pretty sure I’ve made fun of it myself…you have to have thick skin with any disability
